 Kimmo Pohjonen’s Haitaripainia / Accordion Wrestling will take place in Tampere, Finland on Aug 19 - 22. The performance, featuring Pohjonen and ten Finnish wrestlers, is a revival of Finnish wrestling tradition from early to mid-1900s where accordion was included as musical accompaniment for wrestling matches. The first performances were in Turku and Helsinki in April and will continue to Stockholm in December 2010. The performance concept will be expanded to a larger scale with band and string quartet for the Turku Cultural Capital 2011 events. Critics write: “The Accordion wrestling show is not only an impressive way of combining sports and culture - this highly physical spectacle is a powerful mixture of theatre, dance and music.
