Tommy Ford R.I.P., Scotland - UKby Rob Howard |
Accordionist Tommy Ford, from Stirlingshire, passed away on December 23rd at his home in Stirlingshire, Scotland. In 1955 Tommy Ford joined pianist and vocalist Jim McLeod’s Scottish Dance Band as lead accordionist, which from the early 1960s to the late 1990s were one of Scotland’s most high profile bands, with a long-running residency at the Dunblane Hydro and numerous recordings, videos, TV and radio appearances to their credit, including a regular series on BBC Radio 2. Although acknowledged by his peers as one of Scotland’s finest post-war accordionists, Tommy Ford made comparatively few solo concert appearances or solo recordings, but will be remembered for his high quality long service with the late Jim McLeod. He was well like by all who knew or worked with him. |
