The 19th annual NAO Northern Ireland Open Accordion Championships, organized by Clyde Johnston (picture right), takes place on Saturday February 20th at the Belfast Loughshore Hotel (formerly The Clarion Hotel), Carrickfergus, Larne. The competition attracts a large entry each year, with competitors from England, Scotland, and the Irish Republic, as well as a strong local entry. Catering for all types of accordion music there will be solo, duet, group, orchestral and marching band categories suitable for all ages and grades, ranging in styles from classical and continental to traditional. There will be three halls in use all day. The competitions begin at 8.30am and finish at 5.30pm, with the prize presentation taking place later that evening at a Gala Dance in the hotel. Daytime admission is free. The finals of the NAO UK Championships are held at the Adelphi Hotel, Liverpool, from April 22nd to 25th. For further information email: clyde.johnston@hotmail.co.uk |
