On February 14th 1997 Accordions Worldwide reported the news of the sad and unexpected death of Malcolm Gee, at the age of 57, following a stroke (see ‘14 Years Ago’, below). Since the mid-1970s Malcolm Gee had been a tireless promoter of accordion activities in England, and his innovations such as the non-competitive accordion festival and his Accordion Record Club gave the UK accordion scene a shot in the arm when it needed one the most. Still sadly missed, his influence lives on today in the many accordion clubs and festivals inspired by his lead and presence. Rob Howard Editor |
