Scottish accordion legend Sir Jimmy Shand - MBE who was Scotland's finest Musical Export, and the most prolific accordionist of all time of Scottish Dance Music - was born on January 28th 1908, and passed away on December 23rd 2000. He has left his music around for future generations to enjoy not only on CD format, but on the internet and video, and his many compositions have all been published. And now his son Jimmy Shand Jnr has announced that a Sir Jimmy Shand MBE Memorabilia Auction will take place at Mctears Auctions in Glasgow on Friday September 16th 2016. Some of the large number of items up for auction are early model melodeons bought by Jimmy, stage wear from his shows, along with Gold Records, photographs, the ‘big red book’ handed to Jimmy in 1978 by presenter Eamonn Andrews during his appearance on BBC TV’s ‘This Is Your Life’, plus many more lots. Although there will be interest from across the World - it is hoped the majority of bidders will be from his homeland Scotland, so that some of his personal history can be preserved and perhaps put on show.
