Northern Ireland NAO Open Accordion Championships, Carrickfergus – UKby Rob Howard |
The 21st Northern Ireland NAO Open Accordion Championships were held in the Loughshore Hotel, Carrickfergus, on Saturday February 24th, with the Prize Presentation taking place that evening during a Gala Dance. All Scotland Champion Brandon McPhee was a special guest, and this very popular and successful festival was organised by Clyde Johnston (picture left). This festival attracted a large number of entries, with competitors from Scotland, England, and the Irish Republic, and Northern Ireland, and sections included Solo, Duet, Group, Orchestral and Marching Band. The Championship sections were run under the rules of the National Accordion Organisation (NAO) of the United Kingdom and are a qualifying heat for the 2017 NAO UK Championships, held at The Adelphi Hotel in Liverpool, April 25th to 27th.
