The London Accordion Orchestra (MD Ian Watson) spent Sunday July 3rd recording their first studio album at the world famous Abbey Road Studios, St John’s Wood, Westminster, London. The day was described on the LAO’s media page: “Not just any studio, we were at Abbey Road. An incredible experience for the whole orchestra and the sound in the hall was exceptional. It was a tiring but inspirational day - look out for the album coming later this year, it's going to be very special”.

LAO began life as Morley Accordion Orchestra, based at Morley College, in 1999. The ensemble plays a wide variety of music - from original works for accordion orchestra to show tunes and film scores. There are now 35 members of the senior orchestra and 15 members of our training ensemble - LIAO.

Abbey Road Studios (formerly known as EMI Studios), opened in 1931, is probably the world’s most famous recording facility. The first to record there was Paul Robeson, and its many clients have included Al Bowlly, Benjamino Gigli, Fats Waller, London Symphony Orchestra, Pablo Casals, Jack Emblow, Jimmy Shand, Cliff Richard, The Shadows, Paul McCartney, Michael Jackson, Nigel Kennedy, John Lennon, The Hollies, Pink Floyd, Connie Francis, Kylie Minogue, Stevie Wonder, and, most famously, The Beatles.
