Scots Trad Music Awards Results, Dundee – UKby Rob Howard |
The 13th Scots Trad Music Awards took place last week at the Caird Hall in Dundee. Broadcast live on BBC ALBA, BBC Radio Scotland and streamed globally through the BBC ALBA website for the first time ever, the awards, organised by Hands Up for Trad, saw stars of the Scottish music scene celebrate and honour traditional talent. The event was opened by the Peatbog Faeries, followed by a set from accordionist Tom Orr and fiddle player Marie Fielding, whose music really got the audience into the swing of things. Both he and fellow performer Marie Fielding were nominated in various categories, and they clearly showed why. The renowned fiddle/accordion duo Aly Bain and Phil Cunningham, backed on piano by Violet Tulloch, performed a great set, much appreciated by the audience (picture below). Scottish Culture Secretary Fiona Hyslop was among many who spoke at the event, all praising Scottish traditional culture. The winner of Scottish Dance Band of the Year was accordionist Simon Howie and his SDB. Accordion & Fiddle Club of the year award was won by Orkney. There will be an awards ceremony for all the winners on Saturday December 3rd at the Caird Hall in Dundee. |
