‘World Meeting of Accordion Music’, Valledupar – Colombiaby Rob Howard |
The 5th ‘World Meeting of Accordion Music’ in Valledupar, Colombia, takes place from June 19th to 22nd. The festival offers competitions for solo accordionists and ensembles that feature accordion, and is organized by the Reyes Y Juglares Vallenatos Foundation. This year’s guests include Colombia’s Duo Nuevo Mundo - accordionist Lácides Romero (picture right) and clarinet player Francisco Rivera; Landazábal Luis Eduardo Cortés, from Colombia, an accordionist renowned for playing Latin American rhythms, especially music from Brazil, Chile and Paraguay, and Silvio Prevale (pictured left), from Uruguay. Walter Gialdi, who represented Argentina at the 2007 International Festival in Castelfidardo, Italy, is another international guest.
