AccoDuo Miran and Ivana VaupotichIvana and Miran Vaupotich, from Croatia, known as the AccDuo, have recently been announced as the winners of the 14th International Web Concert Hall Competition, held in the USA. The competition is open to all nationalities, any age, for all orchestral instrumentalists and chamber ensembles.

There were 41 entries from 3 continents: 17 solo instrumentalists and 24 ensembles. Second were the Ukrainian piano duo Olha Chipak and Oleksiy Kushnir.

Since forming in 2004, AccoDuo - husband and wife Ivana and Miran Vaupotich - have become one of the most promising classical accordion duos. AccoDuo perform an eclectic mixture of musical styles, and their repertoire includes original pieces, transcriptions from various music periods, as well as popular and world music.

Awards include the Special Schnittke Award at IBLA Grand Prize 2008 in Ragusa, Italy. Eager advocates for both traditional and new concerti for two accordions and orchestra, AccDuo have recently performed with the Padarewski Philharmonic Orchestra, Slovak Sinfonietta, and the Kaliningrad Chamber Orchestra.

AccoDuo collaborate with composers such as John Alan Rose, Paolo Ugoletti, Eric Schwartz, and many others. They performed World Premieres of pieces dedicated to them, ‘Concerto for two classical accordions and Symphony Orchestra’, by Slovak contemporary composer Peter Machajdik, as well as ‘Croatian Suite’ and ‘Phantasy’, by Russian composer Yevgeni Derbenko.

Ivana Levak and Miran Vaupotich met in Zagreb as teenage classical accordion students. They both earned their Master’s degrees at the University of Juraj Dobrila in Pula, Croatia.
