The Accordions Worldwide news for the week ending September 8th 2000 included a report of a concert paying tribute to Wolmer Beltrami (1922-99), regared by many as one of the accordion ‘greats’ of the 20th Century. A highly versatile accordionist and composer, renowned for his duo work with fellow Italian accordionist Gorni Kramer in the 1940s/50s, Beltrami latterly became closely involved with the cinema, recording numerous film soundtracks. Tribute to Wolmer Beltrami – Italy Contributed by Holda Paoletti-Kampl A tribute to one of the greatest Italian accordionists of all times, Wolmer Beltrami, was recently held in Breda Cisoni (province of Mantua). Beltrami died on August 28th last year and was universally praised for his performing skills, particularly in classical music and jazz, which earned him the prestigious ‘World Accordion Oscar’. The musical tribute was given by well-known personalities of the accordion world including Renzo Ruggieri with his group, Paolo Picchio's Milonga Quintet, Luigi Lombardi, Massimiliano Pitocco, Adolfo Del Cont, Valentino Lorenzetti, Gervasio Marcosignori, and Giancarlo Caporilli. |
