| Renowned Finnish accordionist Mika Väyrynen presented several concerts in the Azores while on tour with cellist Jan-Erik Gustafsson. Concerts included November 3rd in the Centro Cultural da Graciosa on the Island of Graciosa and November 5th at Horta, Igreja Matrix da Horta, and on November 7th at the Teatro Micalese, Ponta Delgada. Dr. Väyrynen completed his studies at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki and is the winner of numerous international competitions, including the Coupe Mondiale World Accordion Championships. With 17 CD recordings to his credit, Mika performs throughout the world as a soloist as well as with chamber groups and Symphony Orchestras. Fellow Finnish musician Jan-Erik Gustafsson, is also a winner of several international competitions and performs regularly through Europe and the United States. The concert included works by Handel, Sibelius, Melartin, Gubaidulina, Piazzolla and Segerstam. |
