What a great weekend - it was atmospheric, friendly, and full of wonderful music from all who attended the NAO UK Championships 2018. Honoured during the festival with the NAO Merit Award 2018 was renowned composer Douglas Ward for his devoted service to music and the accordion! The festival was pleased to welcome CIA Vice President Herbert Scheibenreif (Austria). During his speech at the final Prize presentation, Herbert Scheibenreif took the opportunity to re-present in front of all the NAO members, the CIA Merit Award 2017 to Past CIA President Raymond Bodell and the CIA Honoured Friend of the Accordion Award 2017 to Anna Bodell. These awards were originally presented at the Coupe Mondiale in Osimo, Italy last September. The Jury including Herbert Scheibenreif, Graham Laurie, Alistair Gillespie, Larysa Bodell, Karolyn Broadhead, Douglas Ward, Gerry Kelly and Alexander Bodell who were kept busy with competitions being held in three venues throughout the weekend. Outstanding competition successes included 4 section winner Annalize Bodell winning the Senior Recital and the 17 & under “Bell Trophy” Solo, multiple section winners Clelland, Blythe and Inver Shand as well as excellent performances from Ben Cobb, the Colchester Preparatory Band……. Other features throughout the weekend included: An International Extravaganza with a superb performance the Musika Akkordia Orchestra from Germany, the ACE Ensemble from Eire as well as the UK and Irish qualifications for the CMA International Open Solo Competition. A sponsor’s presentation delighted the audience featuring International Prizewinner Alexander Bodell as well as the traditional Ceilidh on Saturday evening with the band Highland Fling under the helm of NAO Hon Vice President Graham Laurie.
