Editor’s Note

Rob HowardMay 6th is World Accordion Day, and we at Accordions Worldwide know that many of you have planned events to celebrate the advent of our favourite instrument. It was on May 6th 1829 that Cyrillius Demien (Cyril Damian) patented his first accordion design in Vienna, Austria, sparking off what quickly became a global craze for this instrument.

It is amazing to see how the accordion, like a chameleon, has adapted perfectly to a large number of musical genres and sub-genres throughout the world. It is played by young and old alike in every inhabited continent, and its repertoire and usage continue to develop and to delight audiences everywhere. Long may this continue.
