Nikola Djorić & Choir Concert: Schubert’s “Winterreise” – Austriaby Dr Herbert Scheibenreif Manager of Friedrich Lips Productions |
On the occasion of the Austrian National Holiday on October 26th, 2023 the Wiesmath Choir organized a spiritual / classical musical experience with choral singing, piano accompaniment as well as organ and string sounds under its active conductor, Gernot Braunstorfer. In addition to masterpieces of choral music, Schubert's “Winterreise” was the focus of the concert program, masterfully performed by Bo Skovhus (baritone) and Nikola Djoric (accordion). A year before his death, in the fall of 1827, Franz Schubert completed “Winterreise” as a song cycle based on texts by Wilhelm Muller. “They effected me more than any other song ever did,” said the composer himself about his work. True to the notes, without arrangements, Schubert's scores sound 1:1 on the accordion and enable the listener to experience the work they know in a completely new timbre, a previously unknown dynamic spectrum. The accordion, with its complexity and ability to “sing,” offers an incomparable appeal for accompanying Schubert’s songs. In addition to appearances at all major opera houses worldwide, Bo Skovhus dedicates a large part of his time to singing songs. As a top performer of his generation, he is constantly invited by all major festivals and music centers in the world. Nikola Djoric, accordionist born in Bor (Serbia) and living in Vienna, is considered one of the most talented in his field in Austria. Not least thanks to his great musicianship on stage, he has already been called the "poet of the accordion". His successful endeavor is to use the accordion's sound spectrum to present new and previously unknown tonality in works from Bach to Beethoven, Schubert, Mozart and Tchaikovsky. |
