New Composition for Accordion Sextet, Milan – Italyby Rob Howard |
 Yuval Avital, an Israeli composer living in Milan, has composed ‘Horror vacui’, for accordion septet, performed by an ensemble of Italian accordionists led by virtuoso Sergio Scappini. This recording took place at the RomaEuropa Festival, Teatro Palladium, Rome, on November 18th. ‘Horror vacui’ explores stillness and movement in sound throughout sonic textures combined rhythms and repeating fragments. The composition, dedicated to foremost North American composer and accordionist Pauline Oliveros, is a journey of listening to a continuous musical landscape, which (as in its title) never stops but always changes.
