Dominguinhos (born José Domingos de Morais) was a leading Brazilian accordionist of the Forro tradition, composer and singer, based in the city of São Paulo. He was highly regarded by his fellow professionals. Dominguinhos was a prolific recording artist, with dozens of albums to his credit over a 44 year period, 1964 to 2008. He also toured with many Brazilian folk singers and musicians such as Luiz Gonzaga, Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil, Gal Costa, Zé Ramalho, Toquinho, and Maria Bethânia. In 1997 Dominguinhos wrote the soundtrack of the film ‘O Cangaceiro’. On July 23rd Dominguinhos passed away in hospital in São Paulo. He had been in a coma since December 2012 following cardiac and respiratory issues. |
