| Created by Rocco Cannizzaro and Natalino Scaffidi the 2nd International Accordion Competition of Palmi, Italy, was held on the 17-19 November. This event was built from the passion and dedication that these men have for the accordion. In these two years they have held two masterclasses with internationally renowned teachers, Aleksander Hrustevich (2016) and Grayson Masefield (2017). This years masterclass with Grayson Masefield was held over two days with programs ranging from baroque repertoire to contemporary with the participating students performing on several free bass systems (chromatic & quint) giving an awareness to the students that the accordion world is varied and full of stimuli. After the masterclass there was a performance by the Bayan Trio performing classical and modern works including compositions from Motion Trio, Hermosa & Piazzolla. The competition was held on Sunday in the Casa della Cultura Leonida Repaci (Cultural House of Palmi) and consisted of Virtuoso and Classical categories for all ages and a diatonic and ensemble category. The jury consisted of Dario pugliese, Dina Tullio Dinatone, Adolfo Zagari, Pietro Pardino, Antonio Francesco Sapia and Grayson Masefield. In addition to traditional awards there was a scholarship that has been assigned in each season of the competition, this year it was awarded to Paolo Esposito The event has been a great success and with over 20 students taking part in the masterclasses and over 55 accordionists coming from many accordion schools entered the competition. |
