STARTING THE IV STRUMENTI & MUSICA FESTIVAL:
CONCERTS IN THE SQUARES AND A JUMP BACK THROUGH TIME, AS WE WERE IN SPOLETO

SI ACCENDE LA IV EDIZIONE DI STRUMENTI&MUSICA FESTIVAL:
CONCERTI NELLE PIAZZE E UN SALTO NEL TEMPO CON SPOLETO COME ERAVAMO

The inauguration of the 2011 Strumenti & Musica Festival encompassed the entire historic center of Spoleto. From 10.00 am to midnight, the three main squares and streets were part of a multitude of events, music and activities that led to the city inhabitants and tourists braving the very warm summer weather to attend these activities plus concerts of accordion and other instruments. By partnering with “Spoleto Come eravamo” (How Spoleto Was) from the earliest hours of the morning, Spoleto began a metamorphosis with the arrival of old tractors, animals and folk groups. We started with the now historic “Canta' a Disfida” (Sing' to Challenge) now in its eleventh year, and then continues with the free seminar "Umbria Traditions on the Way", about the traditional music of the region of Umbria by the Associazione Culturale Sonidumbra.	L’inaugurazione dello Strumenti&Musica festival ha coinvolto l’intero centro storico di Spoleto. Dalle 10.00 del mattino fino a mezzanotte le tre Piazze e le principali vie sono state parte di una moltitudine di eventi, musica ed attività che hanno portato in città turisti e abitanti sfidando il caldo torrido per assistere ai concerti di Strumenti&Musica. Grazie alla collaborazione con “Spoleto Come eravamo”, già dalle prime ore del mattino Spoleto ha iniziato la sua metamorfosi con l’arrivo di antichi trattori, animali e gruppi folk. Si è partiti con l'ormai storica “Canta' a Disfida” giunta alla sua XI edizione, duello canoro itinerante di stornellatori, per proseguire poi con il seminario gratuito “Umbria tradizioni in cammino”, itinerari di musiche tradizionali in Umbria a cura dell’Associazione Culturale Sonidumbra.

In every street, corner and Piazza of Spoleto were musical groups. At 18.00 in Piazza del Mercato went on stage "Sonidumbra" in a concert of popular and traditional music of our region, masterfully sung by Barbara Bucci. At 19.00, in Piazza della Liberta, the "Trio de la Sombra" caught the imagination of those present with the silvery their notes and tangos. The band has ranged from local styles through to tango nuevo rhythmic, plus the melodic and timbre of the jazz and contemporary classical music. To 22.30, in Piazza Garibaldi, the pace has become warmer and more Mediterranean thanks to the ethno jazz concert Dipaolonicola: a crescendo of original compositions and arrangements that go straight to the heart refined, in a blend of ethnic music, folk, jazz with references to classical music.	In ogni via, angolo e Piazza di Spoleto si sono rincorse le note dei gruppi musicali sono esibitisi l’uno dopo l’altro. Alle ore 18.00 in Piazza del Mercato sono andati in scena “Sonidumbra” in un concerto di musica popolare e tradizionale della nostra regione, cantata magistralmente da Barbara Bucci. Alle ore 19.00, in Piazza della Libertà, il “Trio de la Sombra” ha fatto sognare i presenti sulle note argentine e tanghere. Il gruppo musicale ha spaziato dal candombe fino al tango nuevo con soluzioni ritmiche, melodiche e timbriche del jazz e della musica classica contemporanea. Alle ore 22.30, in Piazza Garibaldi, il ritmo si è fatto più caldo e mediterraneo grazie al concerto ethno jazz del Dipaolonicola Group: un crescendo di composizioni originali e arrangiamenti raffinati che vanno dritti al cuore, in un connubio di musiche etniche, popolari, jazz e richiami alla musica classica

"How Is Spoleto," continued the whole day with the exhibition of old photographs of our fellow citizens in the important moments and playful portraits of their lives: marriage, school, trips, etc. .. and a multitude of activities that are drawn from customs and traditions of the past. The market has revived the old luster and between the benchs in the square, there has been a presentation of how to produce dried fruits and spartecchie and also other local historic items such as old barrows and old barrels.	“Spoleto Come Eravamo”, è proseguita per l’intera giornata con la mostra diffusa delle vecchie foto dei nostri concittadini ritratti in momenti importanti e ludici della loro vita: il matrimonio, la scuola, le gite ecc.. e una moltitudine di attività che hanno richiamato usi e costumi di un tempo. Il Mercato ha fatto rivivere il vecchio lustro dell’omonima Piazza e tra un banco e l’altro si è assistito ad una presentazione di come si produce frutta secca e spartecchie e all’esposizione di “zirri, bigunzi e carretti”. Alla biblioteca comunale, invece, alle ore 16.00 si è tenuto l’omaggio a Talegalli con la proiezione di video e letture, insieme alla mostra fotografica dedicata al personaggio spoletino da Virgilio Massani.

Motor vehicles were on display in the Piazza della Libertà, with military vehicles, vintage cars provided by CAMES and ambulances of the first 900 of the Star of Italy. In Corso Mazzini was displayed vintage two wheel vehicles that have shaped the history of the city and the famous Spoleto you ride, thanks to “Moto d’epoca (vintage motorcycles) Spoleto Amici di Ferdinando”. Many other displays of historic objects were offered by the people of Spoleto: wedding dresses, the first computers an old typewriters, old professions of carpenter and pottery and educational materials used by young students a few years ago! In homage to the “Strumenti & Musica Festival”, along the streets of the city was an exhibition of the finest accordions of the past.	Rombi e motori in Piazza della Libertà, con i mezzi militari, le auto d’epoca messe a disposizione dal CAMES e le ambulanze dei primi del ‘900 della Stella d’Italia. A Corso Mazzini hanno sfilato le due ruote che hanno fatto la storia della città e degli illustri spoletini vi montavano in sella, grazie a “Moto d’epoca Spoleto Amici di Ferdinando”. Tante, inoltre, le esposizioni di oggetti offerti dalla gente di Spoleto: abiti da sposa, i primi computer e antiche macchine da scrivere, gli antichi mestieri del falegname, cestinaio e del ceramista, foto e materiali scolastici utilizzati dai giovani alunni di qualche anno fa! In omaggio allo “Strumenti&Musica Festival”, lungo le vie del centro è stata invece, realizzata un’esposizione delle più belle fisarmoniche di un tempo.

In Piazza Garibaldi si è potuto rivivere un momento importante del calendario contadino, quello della trebbiatura, con la mostra di vecchie mietitrebbie e trattori e i canti popolari del gruppo folkloristico locale “Le cinciallegre”. Non potevano certo mancare gli animali, che hanno fatto bella mostra di loro grazie alla Fattoria didattica della Fattoria Ascanio. E ancora, attività per bambini da 0 a 80 anni, con “I giochi dei nostri nonni”.
