I cannot recall hearing a better performance of Chaikin's Final of the Sonata No 1 in B minor and Passacaglia. The famous Final of the Sonata No 1 (which is technically very demanding) is performed so exceptionally that it leaves you breathless at times. And generally, Dmitriev's technical abilities are extraordinary - he performs with such ease, clarity, crispness and perfect "leggiero". In fact, some sections are played at such a fast tempo that you cannot hear note by note – it is Rather a 'steam' of notes that flows like a river.

Besides this absolute technical superiority, Dmitriev possesses great understanding for different styles. His musical approach is delicate, exact and highly emotional.

One of my favorite tracks on this recording is Chaikin's Passacaglia, where Dmitriev achieves sound grandiosity through gradual, impressive dramatical development. I also liked Kholminov's Suite and the warm simplicity in expression that it is performed with.

This recording of "classical" original pieces for accordion by Russian composers: Chaikin, Kholminov, Zolotaryov and Zubitsky would be a great buy for any accordionist and accordion lover.
