Camille Privat Accordeon Classique

In this new disc the young and promising French accordionist Camille Privat – already the winner of several national and international competitions – presents an anthological programme that is both captivating and articulate. She mixes transcriptions (of classical works) and original compositions (by living composers) for the accordion.

The classical tracks refer to two giants in the history of western music: Scarlatti and Mozart. From the former Privat selects two - Sonatas (K1 e K9), played with technical skill and a precise style; whilst from the maestro of Salzburg we can appreciate Sonata No. 10 (for pianoforte), interpreted with the necessary due skill but also with expression and grace.

Not only do we not miss the original instrument (denying those who say that the accordion cannot interpret difficult piano compositions) but the accordion gives an added (and alternative) value to the piece – so much so that – especially in some passages – we seem to be listening to a small wind ensemble.

The pieces selected from the accordion repertoire are from the French composer Franck Angelis with his rhythmic Hommage a Paco and the romantic and intimate Romance, played with sobriety. Then we have two pieces by Semionov: the third movement of the notable Rapsodia executed in a fresh and scintillating manner and (the less well known) Brahmsiana played with notable technique and temperament.

The CD which concludes with Toccata by Oleksiv, is yet again testament to the “health” of our Instrument: whilst there are young talented players like Privat (and fortunately there are ever more so!) the future, even for the classical accordion can surely be nothing but positive.
