"Tango Nuevo"

AusTrio
Artist
28 August 2009

Apart from the last two tracks, this is a CD of Astor Piazzolla compositions presented a classical chamber format, (having been transcribed by José Bragato or the accordionist of the trio Roman Pechmann.)

The formation - violin, cello and accordion - whilst denuding, in some ways, the original sound of the argentinian maestro, at the same time seems to clarify the harmony and melody lines - having opportunly chosen tracks of a more "polifonic" nature ( like amongst others, Estaciones porteñas, La muerte del angel or Fuga 9)

The intention of the trio, who attain incredible levels of harmony ( the three instruments combine wonderfully) seems to be that of highlighting the singability of Piazolla's melodies, without however, sacrificing the typical accents of this fascinating music.

The CD ends with a dedication to Piazzolla (Tango for Astor) by Klaus Paier and with a "surprising"version of Take Ten by Frank Marocco, a track which although of a different style, is related to the "Tango Nuevo" by way of its exuberant rhythm and singability.
