Henry Doktorski NOTE: This is a CD Single

This is the first time that I have received an accordion CD Single for review. I thought that it was an interesting idea, and since it is a recognized form of recording in other genres in music, why not have it in the accordion world!

This short 10 minute compact disc consists of a new and revised version of Doktorski's composition for free bass accordion and string orchestra, "Suite on Four Polish Carols", which originally appeared on his popular Classical Christmas CD ( reviewed on AWW on November 7th, 1997). In this version Henry added new and substantial accordion parts to "Lulajze jezuniu" and " Dzisiaj w Betlejem".

"Suite on Four Polish Carols" is written in the style of quasi baroque and in the character of Christmas Carols based on the themes of Four Polish Christmas Carols. It consists of 4 movements which could potentially be four independent musical miniatures.

As a unit, this ensemble of accordion and strings characterizes good balance and refined musical taste. They 'breath' together in long phrases, playing with the full, big sound. The accordion part is performed by Henry most professionally, technically confident, polished musically and stylistically.

It is quite an impressive work. ****
