Una gran noticia nos aguarda esta semana: la colaboración entre el español Ángel Luis Castaño y el finlandés Mika Väyrynen, dos de las grandes referencias en el mundo del acordeón a nivel internacional. El trabajo ha sido respaldado por el Finnish Accordion Institute, puedes acceder al catálogo aquí: Finland Recordings Ambos son conocidos por sus trabajos como solistas, su amplio repertorio y su apoyo a la música de nueva creación, pero en esta ocasión unen sus fuerzas para dar a conocer algunos aspectos del acordeón en formato dúo, a través de un variado repertorio nutrido tanto por transcripciones como por obras originales: J.S.Bach: Toccata en FaM BWV 540; Bach-Vivaldi: Concerto en lam BWV 593; Lundquist: Ballad: Vaclav Trojan: Tarantella; y por primera vez en formato dúo para acordeones el célebre Adagio del Cuarteto de cuerda en si menor del compositor estadounidense Samuel Barber, más conocido por el arreglo orquestal encargado por Arturo Toscanini (Adagio for strings). Los organizadores necesitarán a 1.200 acordeonistas para tocar el Cumpleaños Feliz, en conmemoración del 150 aniversario de Paolo Soprani, fundador de la industria del acordeón en la ciudad en 1863. |

Ted Dwane del grupo Mumford & Sons ha sido ingresado en el hospital por un coágulo de sangre en el cerebro. El bajista, de 28 años fue ingresado el 10-06-13 en Texas durante su gira en EEUU, una prueba determino rápidamente la gravedad de su estado. La banda publica en su web oficial la noticia, informando de que Ted hacía días que se encontraba mal hasta que fue llevado al hospital donde recibe actualmente los mejores cuidados posibles y confían en que rápidamente se recuperará y podrá continuar con su labor en la banda. Desde aquí le deseamos una pronta recuperación y mucho ánimo. Deseamos volverte a ver completamente recuperado. |

El popular accordeonista y profesor escocés Gary Blair, ha regresado de su gira por China, a donde regresará pronto como concertista de primer orden. El 16 de julio vuela a EEUU donde interpretará y enseñará en el Leavenworth International Accordion Celebration, Washington. Posteriormente el viajará a Portland, Oregon, para un concierto el domingo día 30 de unio, en el Portland Community Music Centre, seguido de un concierto el Lunes 1 de julio, a las 19.00 en el Veteran's Memorial Building, Eugene, Oregon. Ksenija Sidorova CD ‘Fairy Tales’, London - UKby Rob Howard |
On July 1st UK-based Latvian accordionist Ksenija Sidorova releases a new CD, ‘Fairy Tales’, featuring old and new repertoire, transcriptions and orginal works. Ksenija Sidorova performs on the recording with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, conducted by Clark Rundell. The CD appears on the Champs Hill Records label, serial number CHRCD055. The CD tracks are: 1) ‘Caprice Espagnol’ - Moskowski 2 – 8) ‘Fairy Tales, a Concerto for Accordion’ - Vaclav Trojan 9) ‘Who's the Puppet?’ - Artem Vassiliev 10 – 14) ‘Holberg Suite’ - Grieg 15) ‘Scherzo - Midsummer Night's Dream’ - Mendelssohn 16) ‘Scherzo – Toccata’ - Petr Londonov Ksenija was recently awarded the Latvian Grand Music Award 1212 'Outstanding Performance' prize. Rade Mijatovic - 1st Prize winner of senior Coupe Mondiale 2005, in Castelo Branco, Portugal performs Impasse III and IV movement. This video put online on Nov 18, 2011. The composition Impasse by (available online at) Franck Angelis was the test piece for the 2004 Coupe Mondiale in Pontarlier, France. Contestants could choose any 2 movements of this work. ‘14 Years Ago’ – Bernadette Conlon Contest Success in New Zealandby Rob Howard |
The Accordions Worldwide news for the week ending June 11th 1999 reported that Bernadette Conlon, from Australia, had the recently become the South Pacific Solo Champion in New Zealand, adding another title to her long list of successes in accordion competitions. Since then, Bernadette has married, becoming Mrs Zabawa, and moved to Chicago, USA. Conlon Does It Again - New Zealand Contributed by Wayne Knights The 1999 New Zealand Accordion Championships and Festival were held from June 4th to 6th in Auckland. The event opened on Friday evening with a ‘Mix & Mingle’ to welcome overseas competitors and visitors. Adjudicators included many well known New Zealand accordion teachers and entertainers as well as overseas guests such as Professor Li Wei Ming from China. Winner of the South Pacific Piano Accordion Solo Competition was Bernadette Conlon (Australia) who also won the International Australian title last weekend. Guest performers included Tracey Collins, Lian Huang, North Shore Accordion Orchestra (conducted by Lionel Reekie and Heather Masefield) and SCWALT quintet. Special guest artist John MacDonald entertained an enthusiastic audience on the Saturday evening, after which he was honoured for his enormous contribution towards the popularity of the accordion with a New Zealand Accordion Association Life Membership presentation.
