  Dimanche 6 mai est le World Accordion Day, célébrant l’anniversaire du 6 mai 1829, lorsque fut déposé à Vienne, Autriche, le brevet de l’accordéon par Cyrllius Demien (souvent anglicisé en Cyril Damien). Bien qu’il soit connu qu’avant 1929 en Europe plusieurs personnes avaient expérimenté les anches pour produire des formes d’accordéon, harmonicas et autres instruments à anches libres, Cyrllius Demien a été le premier à breveter formellement un accordéon. Le 6 mai a donc été largement reconnu comme la date anniversaire officielle de l’instrument. L’accordéon a suivi une longue route depuis le début du 19e siècle et il s’est adapté parfaitement à de nombreux styles et genres musicaux dans le monde entier. Il y aura de nombreux évènements dans le monde le 6 mai et autour de cette date pour célébrer le World Accordion Day, dont certains ont été annoncés sur Accordion Worldwide. Je vais jouer lors d’événements publics à Stockport, Cheshire, UK, les 6 et 7 mai et honorer ainsi notre instrument favori. Joyeux World Accordion Day à vous tous ! |

Les deux accordéonistes de l’Armée des Etats-Unis ont été retenus pour le dîner d’état du 24 avril recevant le président Français Emmanuel Macron à la Maison Blanche, Washington, DC. Au début de la soirée, le Sergent Major Manny Bobenrieth et les cordes de l’ U.S. Army accueillaient les invités au portail Est, tandis que le Sergent Frank Busso Jr. Et les cordes de l’US Air Force accompagnaient l’arrivée des invités à l’entrée de l’Aile Est. Après avoir dégusté la cuisine d’inspiration française dans la salle des dîners officiels, les invités réjoignaient la salle Est pour un concert. Le show commençait par de célèbres chanteurs d’opéra et les choeurs de l’US Army. Le final du concert était un arrangement spécial de “La vie en rose” d’Edith Piaf par le Sergeant Major Bobenrieth. Cette piéce commença par une introduction langoureuse à l’accordéon solo par le Sergeant Major Bobenrieth, puis s’ajoutèrent les choeurs de l’US Army et des musiciens tant des cordes de l’US army que de celles de l’Air Force et la pièce se concluait par un passage pour voix et accordéon joué par le Sergent Busso. A la suite immédiate du concert, le sergent major Bobenrieth et le Sergent Busso, emmenèrent une fois encore leurs ensembles respectifs vers l’aile Est où il saluaient en musique le départ des invités. Manny Bobenrieth, natif de Concepcion, Chili, a rejoint les cordes de l’U.S. Army en 1986 et devint le leader de l’ensemble en 2004. En dehors de l’armée, il se produit comme musicien dans la grande région de Washington DC et il donne des cours dans son MD studio du Potomac. Manny est aussi membre du bureau dirigeant de l’American Accordionists' Association (AAA). Franck Busso Jr., de Staten Island, NY, devint l’accordéoniste de l’orchestre de l’U.S. Air Force et il en est aussi chef de section des productions en public. Hors de son travail, il dirige la Busso Music School d’Alexandria, VA et il est le directeur de Ernest Deffner Affiliates. Franck est membre du bureau dirigeant de l’AAA depuis 2007. |

Dans le cadre du 4éme festival international 'Green Noise' le célèbre musicien Yuri Shishkin et ses élèves, lauréats de concours internationaux Anna Kryshtaleva, Pyotr Yarinenko, et Karolina Desyatkova se sont produit avec l’orchestre symphonique du Surgut Philharmonic dirigé par Stanislav Dyatlov. 'Green Noise' est un des plus grands festivals de Russie est reçoit des artistes de renom mondial dans divers domaines artistiques (musique, ballet, théatre). La directrice artistique du festival est l’exceptionnelle pianiste Ekaterina Michetina. Ce concert a eu un immense succès. Le programme était unique : chaque musicien jouait une pièce solo, puis avec l’orchestre et enfin en duo avec Yuri Shishkin et l’orchestre. Pour les éléves de Shishkin, c’était leur première avec un orchestre symphonique. Les musiques étaient de V. Semionov, A. Tsfasman, A. Piazzolla, V. Gridin, L. Presicci, V. Vlasov, N. Dautov. Le concert se terminait par la première mondiale de Seventango du compositeur Roberto Molinelli, oeuvre pour sept accordéons et orchestre, point culminant de la soirée. Aux côtés de Shishkin et ses étudiants, Seventango était interprété par des musiciens de Surgut, lauréats de concours internationaux, Denis Adaev, Rinat Valiev, Nikita Voitenko. Il faut dire que l’école d’accordéon de Surgut est connue dans le monde entier à travers ses représentants champions du monde et lauréats de concours prestigieux. L’interprétation de Sevantango tourna à un feu d’artifice de thémes célébres de tango. Ce fut une réelle performance musicale qui déchaina l’enthousiasme et les applaudissements du public. | Quel beau week end – il fut convivial, amical et rempli de merveilleuse musique jouée par tous ceux qui participaient aux championnats NAO UK 2018. Durant le festival était honoré du NAO Merit Award 2018 le célèbre compositeur Douglas Ward pour sa dévotion à la musique et à l’accordéon. Le festival a eu le plaisr d’accueillir le Vice Président de la CIA Herbert Scheibenreif (Austriche). Durant son discours à la remise des prix finale, Herbert Scheibenreif saisit l’opportunité de remettre à nouveau devant tous les membres de la NAO le Prix du Mérite de la CIA 2017 à l’ancien président Raymond Bodell et le Prix d’Honneur des Amis de la CIA 2017 à Anna Bodell. Ces prix leur avaient été remis à l’origine lors de la Coupe Mondiale à Osimo, Italie, en septembre dernier. Le jury comprenant Herbert Scheibenreif, Graham Laurie, Alistair Gillespie, Larysa Bodell, Karolyn Broadhead, Douglas Ward, Gerry Kelly et Alexander Bodell fut très occupé, les concours se tenant dans trois lieux tout au long du week end. Parmi les succès extraordinaires en concours, Annalize Bodell remportait 4 catégories, Senior Recital, moins de 17 ans, “Bell Trophy” et Solo, vainqueurs également de plusieurs catégories, Clelland, Blythe et Inver Shand ainsi que les excellentes performances de Ben Cobb, du Colchester Preparatory Band, ... Parmi les temps forts du week end : Une Extravaganza internationale avec une superbe performance du Musika Akkordia Orchestra allemand, le ACE Ensemble d’ Eire ainsi que les qualifications UK et Irlande pour le concours international open de la CMA. Une scène sponsorisée régalait le public avec le gagnant de prix international Alexander Bodell ainsi que le traditionnel Ceilidh du samedi soir avec le band Highland Fling, à la barre le Vice President de la NAO Graham Laurie. | Local talents and international guests are in the program for the 2nd edition WOW Folk Festival from 10 to 14 May. The second edition is marked by the growth and the exploration of new musical territories after the positive experimentation of last year. From Thursday 10 to Monday, May 14, the city is filled with sounds, energy and passion thanks to the Wow Folk Festival organized by the Department of Culture in collaboration with the Pro Loco in the context of the patronal festivities. "We have thought of a path that goes from younger talents to international guests, while providing dance workshops, street food, flea market and traveling shows that will revive the square with dances of communities capable of transmitting emotions and vibrations at the same contact in his hands ", explains Councilor Ruben Cittadini. |

This video does not include the intro of the work.Renzo Ruggieri has released "Il bosco incantato" the first piece he has composed for free bass accordion. Renzo writes: "I wrote the melody for a theatrical show by Marco Goldin - to whom the piece is dedicated - on the famous painter Edward Munch. In fact, the title recalls one of his paintings "The Enchanted Forest" of 1903. Then the simple melodic idea was reworked, arranged and used for "the guided solo", a moment that the soloist can freely interpret and personalize." The famous theme of the last dance is an "audience winner".Ivano Battiston newly released arrangements: Catalog: battiston105 The "Ricercare a tre" arranged for accordion solo, is a three-voice fugue and the first piece of the Musical Offering (1747) by Johann Sebastian Bach, one of the most articulate and complex works ever composed, and is universally considered one of the highest points ever achieved in the history of music. All the material is based on a musical theme created by Frederick II of Prussia and masterfully elaborated by the great German musician. Catalog: battiston106 3 Balkan Dances are three short pieces written for recorder and accordion and inspired by the folklore of Serbia and Macedonia. So I decided to re-paint this picture, (attached) for the World Accordion Day that is being celebrated worldwide on 6th May, 2018. Let us teach our children this beautiful musical instrument." In February 2018: During a courtesy call at the office of the President of Malta, Dr Philip Agius, Hon President of the Santa Maria Accordion Band, since he also is an artist, presented one of his paintings to the President of Malta Her Excellency Marie.  The Macedonian Association of Accordionists (MAA) “Ljubiteli na klasicna muzika” Skopje is delighted to invite you to the World Accordion Day Gala Jubilee Concert which will be held at Macedonian National Theatre Skopje on May 6th.This year, for the tenth time, the association organizes a solemn concert marking the celebration of the international event and birthday celebration of the instrument, the accordion. The project is supported by the national program of the Ministry of Culture, Republic of Macedonia. The concert will feature renowned artists from Macedonia and accordion students performing works by Zubitsky, Derbenko, Bete Ilin, Angelis, Piazzolla and others. A last year’s special guest, Grayson Masefield from New Zealand, on the WAD concert performed the composition "The New Tomorrow" by Bete Ilin with string quintet (premiere performance was in March 2017 in Lausanne, Switzerland). This year, May 26th, Grayson Masefield will perform this composition in Berlin with Berlin Philharmonic. On this year’s concert, the composition "Duellum" by Bete Ilin will have its premiere performance by AkordioM (Zorica Karakutovska and Filip Stameski) and a string orchestra. The international project "May 6th World Accordion Day" is supported by the Macedonian Association of Accordionists “Ljubiteli na klasicna muzika” with various events and successful realization of concerts at home and abroad. An article with the information about the jubilee World Accordion Day Concert, being held on the 189th birthday of the accordion, is published in all main newspapers and portals in Macedonia. During this week, President of MAA, Professor Zorica Karakutovska and other association’s members, are promoting the event appearing live on the National TV and radio programs.  Cyprus’ first Accordion Festival, organised by Cleopatra Charalambous and Angelos Doukas, takes place from May 4th to May 6th in Pera Oreinis, Cyprus. The festival includes several workshops, seminars and concerts. Pera Oreinis is a village 19 kilometres south of Nicosia.On Friday May 4th the festival opens with an Open Accordion Exhibition & Technical Support at the village cultural centre, an Interactive Musical Theatre for children, featuring Leon the Accordion. The First Accordion Band of Cyprus (MD Cleopatra Charalambous) will be entertaining from the central stage in the village square along with the visiting Leipzig Akkordeon Ensemble, from Germany, and, later in the evening, with the local group Parapera. The following two days include seminars on subjects such as ‘Accordion in Greek Traditional Music’; concerts (including the Young Volunteer Choir featuring the Windcraft Kids’ Band, and DJ Vassilis Palamas); and the ‘Learn about the Harmonica’. There’s also a live performance on the third day which will see all the workshop attendees performing live in the village streets – a sort of wandering minstrel event with groups popping out of alleyways to delight and surprise. And the entire three-day event will culminate in a village square showcase which includes both the Bellw Epoque Music Band and the First Accordion Band of Cyprus. | ‘The Spirit of Tango’ is a concert featuring Mario Stefano Pietrodarchi on Friday May 4th, 7.30pm, in the Duke’s Hall at the Royal Academy of Music, Marylebone Road, London NW1 5HT. The internationally renowned Bandoneon virtuoso performs alongside Academy string, piano and accordion students with a programme inspired by tango music. Tickets are £7.50 (concessions £5.50) from the RAM’s Box Office. The Academy accordion students will also be performing with the Philharmonia Orchestra, conducted by Vladimir Ashkenazy, at St David’s Hall, Cardiff on Friday May 18th and again at the Royal Festival Hall, London, on Sunday May 20th both at 7.30 pm.  Italian accordionist, composer and producer Marco Lo Russo will be celebrating World Accordion Day in style by performing classical, jazz, and world music on Swedish made Bengts accordions (produced in collaboration with the Bugari Armando company of Italy), 11am until 5pm, at Karlssons Musik, Äskebackavägen 18, Fjärås, Hallands Län, Sweden.Marco Lo Russo’s recent career has seen him performing internationally with appearances in Poland, Mexico, Cuba, Africa, and Canada, pursuing various musical projects, especially his ‘Made in Italy’ project. Recent accomplishments include composing the Italian entry for the the Eurovision Song Contest, producing the soundtrack of the film ‘CityZen’, directed by Ruggero Gabbai, broadcast on SKY TV, and the composition of the ‘Ave Maria’ dedicated to Pope Francis.  Accordionist Elsa Gourdy and her orchestra play for dancing on Sunday May 6th, 3pm until 8pm, at 1 Rue Gustave Eiffel, La Chapelle-Saint-Mesmin, in the Loiret department in north-central France. Elsa Gourdy, accordionist, bandoneonist and composer, performs in many musical genres, from French chanson to jazz. She began the accordion at the age of 6, studied at a conservatory, and was later mentored by Frédéric Deschamps. To date she has performed in the USA, Canada, UK, Italy, Germany, Portugal, Russia, Mongolia, China, Finland, Lithuania, Latvia, Qatar, Switzerland, and Austria. | On Sunday May 6th, 6pm, the London Accordion Orchestra (MD Ian Watson) perform in a concert, titled ‘SToP, Slovenian Percussion Project’ with the Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra at Kongresni trg 10 (Philharmonic Hall), 1000 Ljubljana, Slovenia. The accordion orchestra programme will include some new pieces of English composers and works of film music, as well as the work of Slovenian composers. The Slovenian percussion project will join the orchestra and will also be presented independently. This will be an unforgettable concert for lovers of accordion and percussion. | On Thursday May 10th, 7.30pm, fiddle player Gemma Donald and accordionist Alan Small are the guests at the Carlisle Accordion & Fiddle Club. The venue is St Margaret Mary’s Social Club, Scalegate Road, Carlisle, Cumbria CA2 4JX. Admission is £3.50 and £1.50 for local players. There is a raffle and a bar. Alan Small was the All Scotland Accordion Champion in 2002, teaches the accordion, plays in a variety of styles, and is currently band leader with the Lomond Ceilidh Band. Gemma Donald is a fiddle player, accordionist and pianist, and also an accordion technician, trained in Castelfidardo. |

 On Saturday May 12th and Sunday May 13th, 11am to 5pm, accordionists Karen Street and Karen Tweed lead two one-day accordion events called ‘Time to Sing’. These events are open to all accordionists and also those who like to sing. In the morning there is a workshop, rehearsing mainly sing-along tunes, and after lunch there is a public concert, with community singing. Each afternoon also includes accordion solos from specially invited guest players. | Entries Close 13th May 2018. The Kärntner Akkordeonverein (KAV) invites for the first time in June this year to a multi-day accordion meeting in Ossiach, Carinthia. This musical encounter is especially aimed at adult accordion beginners and amateur musicians who like to play accordion in their free time or in retirement for their own enjoyment. In the foreground is getting to know other music enthusiasts but also the exchange of common musical interests. The participants are offered a number of different workshops for beginners and advanced learners such as: Ø Musical games for everyone Ø Easy song accompaniment Ø Interplay in a small ensemble Ø Rudimentary music theory Ø Feedback on self-produced pieces Furthermore, there is the possibility to practice and easy interaction with others. In addition to the musical exchange and cozy get-together, the beautiful landscape around the Ossiacher Lake invites to walks or to swim. Depending on the interests of the participants, the content of the course will be adjusted variably!
