Klingenthal City in the mountains and ski area once a part of East Germany is close to the Czech boarder. This lovely city has a huge history of accordion. The area was once dominated by the huge Accordion Factory in Klingenthal and evidence of the importance of the accordion in the lives of the people of Klingenthal is obvious wherever you go in the city.
The Tourism Office is the main base of the Klingenthal International Accordion Competition, very central to the halls being used.
Various artwork and statutes with accordion as part of the theme are around the city center.
Closer photo of this interesting statute / monument in the city square.
Nice accordion statute outside the Gliersaal
Adjudicator Frederic Deschamps - is he adding
a free bass to the statute!
Banners were on all the entrance roads to Klingenthal City - a lovely welcome for candidates and accordion enthusiasts. A lovely touch, one of many by the Klingenthal International Accordion Competition organisers.
Accordion concerts were well advertised with posters and brochures.

One competition room in the Rathaus could be seen from the city square along with an array of flags of different nations attending.
This report covers from the 8th May on but prior to that, there have been a number of festival concerts and some competition classes.
Some results are already released.

A Rathaus room was used due to the normal hall being renovated. Room was very crowded for Category VI which holds a lot of public interest and has strong audience appeal. Being so close to the performers was nice and the room had good accoustics. At the table are the judges for this category.
Julien "Speedy" Gonzales (France) was one of those who qualified for the second round tomorrow. List of qualifiers.
Grayson Masefield (New Zealand) also qualified for the second round tomorrow.
After the Category VI finished, Category IV was still running in the Gliersaal. Round 2 of Category IV started at 9am runing all day until 10 pm at night. From that competition was selected the finalists. Ihar Kvachevich (Russia) above was a Category IV contestant.
Harri Kuusijarvi (Finland)
