accordionist. For many years she performed with her late-husband Karl Pukara in
the Karl Pukara Trio. In 1998, Iona assumed the role of leader for the trio, to
the continued delight of Sudbury and area dance enthusiasts.
Iona Reed
began playing piano at age five, and moved on to the accordion at age 17. In 1962
she became the CIA Coupe Mondiale World Accordion Champion in Prague, Czech Republic.
Karl and Iona performed and adjudicated throughout Ontario and Quebec, in the
United States and in Europe. As a team they recorded "A String of Accordion
Pearls" and "Accordion Duo on Tour".
Among her accomplishments
Iona Reed performed at the pre-Oscar party in Los Angeles in 1997, and has performed
with Pandora Topp's tribute to French chanteuse Edith Piaf at the National Arts
