Il festival nazionale per fisarmonica a buttoni il primo organizzato della National Accordion Association con partecipanti da piccolissimi fino ai 90 anni con un total e di 250 persone!
Il sabato gli artisti partecipi erano dalla California gli Alaska Polka Chips, Alaska Button Box Band, Fontana Button Accordion Band e dal Missouri il St Louis Button Box Club. In momenti di relax i partecipanti del festival hanno potuto godersi un buffet con specialit della Repubblica Ceca, un Oklahoma barbecue.
Una eccellente parte del festival sotto la direzione di Ron Pivovar, Dick Albreski e Michele Young era la parte dedicata a Sei tu lartista. 2 grandi palchi a disposizione dei partecipanti per proporsi sul palco durante i 30 minuti di pausa.
Domenica mattina ha iniziato con una Polka Mass seguito con il concerto in memoria. The semi-final of the first European Championships for players of the Roland Virtual Accordion takes place on October 6th in the Casino in the French town of Bourboule. The finals of this new competition will take place in Italy in November. There is a prize of 5,000 Euros for the winner.

Squeeze Me - The Jazz and Swing Accordion Story il titolo di un maxi 101 track 4 CD set che include rare registrazioni storiche di grandi artisti europei ed americani dal mondo jazz del 20 secolo. Gli artisti: Art Van Damme, Mat Mathews, Tito Burns Gus Viseur, Tito Guidotti, Tony Murena, Michel Warlop, Rolf Syverson, Charles Verstraete, Cornell Smelser, Joe Mooney, Johnny Meier, Tommy Gumina e George Shearing.
Incluso nel CD set anche una brochure con 42 pagine illustrate con informazioni dettagliate sulla vita e carriera degli artisti. Una documentazione da vero unica sulle leggende del jazz.
Accordionist Mary Tokarski has released a new CD, which will be premiered at a concert on June 15th, 7.30pm, at the Blackstone Memorial Library, 758 Main Street, Branford, CT 06405. Admission is free.
Included on the CD are: ‘Musical Party’ (Daverne) recorded with the Moravian Symphony Orchestra, ‘Rondo, from Concerto in E’ (Deiro), ‘Remembering A Legend: Charles Magnante’ (Schimmel), ‘Gentilezza’ (Tacca), ‘Pioneer Concerto’ (Ettore), ‘Dance of the Demon’ (Holst), ‘Three Songs Without Words’ (Daverne) recorded with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, ‘Flat The Fifth’ (Mucedola), ‘Concerto in E flat Major, excerpts’ (Liszt), recorded in 1963!, ‘Mexican Carnival’ (Desiderio), and ‘The Fox & The Hound’ (Mucedola) recorded ‘live’ with the Auckland Symphony Orchestra.
A special event for those studying at the Hohner Conservatory in Trossingen was the arrival of Frédéric Deschamps and three of his students last week.
The Hohner Conservatory arranged master classes for all interested students including the Ensemble Art of Accordion, that won 1st prize at the World Music Festival in Innsbruck the previous week.
For the three students of Frederic Deschamps - Grayson Masefield (New Zealand), Cyril Blanchard and Julien "Speedy" Gonzales (France), all very successful artistes at international competitions, a special highlight was seeing the Hohner manufacturing works in Trossingen.
Here they could see, how the top model Hohner accordions are built. As thanks for the friendly visit, these three performers gave a spontaneous concert for the manufacturing workshop staff. Picture of Cyril and ‘Speedy’ performing to workers, and Grayson with Dr Braeuning performing.

Frances Brougher Dies, Texas – USA

Frances Brougher, long time friend of the National Accordion Association, died on Monday May 28th at the age of 89. She played accordion, organ, piano and sang for many years, and was instrumental in starting the Central Texas Accordion Association (NAA). She also sponsored touring groups such as the International Trio, Jason, Betty Jo Simon, Leo Aquino, Gary Daverne, and others.
‘Art of Accordion’ 9th World Music Festival, Innsbruck – Austria

The recent Innsbruck World Music Festival was another large-scale event, involving musicians from many different countries. The festival of over 10,000 bellows players included accordion and harmonica contests for solo, duet, group and orchestral entries.
The Hohner Conservatory Orchestra, under the direction of Andreas Nebl, gave outstanding concert performances, and there were competition successes for Michaela Hepp, Sarah Staiger, Ralf Brendle, Alexander Cargnelli and Clemens Tschallener. This is the thirteenth smash year for this prestigious series of master classes led by William Schimmel. The three day event will take place at: The Tenri Cultural Institute of New York - 43A West 13th St - between 5th and 6th Ave. The dates are: July 27th, 28th and 29th. Master Classes are at 3pm, Concerts are at 7pm.
Each Master Class will begin with about four or five performers who will receive advice, encouragement and tools for improvement from the audience, the participants and William Schimmel.
‘Mundharmonika, Tango und andere Kurzweil’ Graz – Austria

A concert titled 'Harmonica, Tango and other Kurzweil' takes place in Graz on June 1st, organised for the Harmonikazentrum Graz, and sponsored by Kulturreferat der Stadt Voitsberg,  Harmonikazentrum Graz and the  Weststeirisch  Kammerorchester. Artistes performing include Josef Fürpass – bandoneon, Isabella Krapf – harmonica, Lothar Lässer – accordion (picture), and the Weststeirisches Kammerorchester, conducted by Selma Trefflinger.
A chamber music concert involving accordionist Owen Murray takes place at the prestigious Wigmore Hall, 36 Wigmore Street, London W1U 2BP, on June 8th, at 7.30pm. The program includes Mozart - ‘Adagio and Rondo K617’, Arnold Schoenberg – ‘Second String Quartet’, and Poul Ruders – ‘On the Shores of the Cosmic Ocean’, the latter being a London premiere dedicated to Owen Murray.
Questo festival, unico in tutto il panorama internazionale, vuole incoraggiare la diffusione della fisarmonica jazz con concerti originali, coinvolgenti e culturalmente elevati. Durante la manifestazione che si svolgerà il 20, 21, 22 luglio alle ore 21:45 viene assegnato un importante riconoscimento denominato: “Vela D’Oro” per gli importanti risultati conseguiti dai prescelti nella loro attività artistica.
L'enorme successo delle precedenti edizioni (1° edizione 2500 presenze e 4000 nel 2006) vuol dire che la manifestazione ha obiettivi artistici convincenti e che anche quest'anno gli faranno da guida. Tra gli artisti già ospitati ricordiamo Peppino Principe, Art Van Damme, Frank Marocco, Germano Mazzocchetti e combinazioni del nostro direttore artistico Renzo Ruggieri Lino Patruno e con la famosa Antonella Ruggiero in un progetto “Canzoni fra le Guerre” appositamente nato da noi che è sfociato nella partecipazione al festival di Sanremo 2007 e nella pubblicazione di un CD, in parte registrato nel concerto di Pineto (ed.2006).
Non mancheranno quest'anno novità importantissime e combinazioni inedite e significative, infatti: il 20 luglio avremo LUCIANO BIONDINI GROUP – ormai una certezza della nuova fisarmonica jazz - che con prestigiosi artisti proporrà un suggestivo e modernissimo incontro fra la cultura tipicamente mediterranea e il jazz. Il 21 luglio invece siamo riusciti ad avere un contratto con un artista unico quanto straordinario, RENATO BORGHETTI che con la fisarmonica diatonica ha veramente rivoluzionato il modo di suonare la musica popolare latina, infatti, viene dal Brasile e ci propone uno spettacolo - in costumi originali - di musica struggente quanto spettacolare, si pensi che non appena maggiorenne aveva già un libro sulla sua vita e che il suo primo disco ha venduto 100.000 copie.
Non manca la commistione con la musica pop di qualità che si concretizzerà con la presenza del grande SERGIO CAPUTO che non ha certamente bisogno di presentazione. Sergio – ormai residente in USA – viene in Italia solo occasionalmente in tour e siamo veramente orgogliosi di essere riusciti ad averlo a Pineto. Il concerto si svolgerà il 22 luglio e ad un prima parte di nuove canzoni seguirà una seconda dove la fisarmonica del nostro Renzo Ruggieri s'inserirà nelle sue canzoni più famose (Sabato Italiano, Garibaldi, etc.).
Tutti i concerti saranno aperti dalla Dixieland Brass Band diretta dal M° Pino Mannello che dopo aver girato per il mare e le vie della cittadina eseguiranno una esecuzione dedicata a Pineto dal M° Peppino Principe. L'ingresso ai concerti è completamente libero.
