Grayson Masefield was born in Auckland, New Zealand on the 10th September 1987 to accordion playing parents Ian and Heather Masefield. Since leaving school he started a Bachelor of Music, major in accordion performance with Stephanie Poole, at Auckland University School of Music.

During 2006, Grayson went to France for seminars and some months of tuition with Frédéric Deschamps and for 2007, is now studying in France full time.

Grayson has now competed internationally in the Virtuoso Entertainment and Classical categories. Additionally, Grayson has been invited to perform in several European countries during 2007.

Grayson Masefield began his musical education on accordion aged 3 with Fay Schaw. Further input from his uncles Maurice and Harley Jones followed. He played in the North Shore Accordion Orchestras, starting in the Novices, progressing to the Music Makers then to the teenage group NSAO.

He attended Takapuna Primary School, graduating with the Rotary Prize for “The Child Most Likely to Succeed”. At Takapuna Normal Intermediate School he took the lead part in the school show and began his sporting career with tennis. He later attended Rangitoto College representing the largest school in New Zealand in volleyball and tennis. He lead all of the New Zealand volleyball teams into the arena at the Australasian Schools Volleyball Tournaments with a Maori "Haka" challenge. Grayson also won his schools prestigious Speech Competition when only 16.
