Classical Music Categories

Category PIF Competition Città di Castelfidardo for Classical Accordion Soloists.
Category Prize No limits of age – 2 trials
The competitors must perform a composition for harpsichord and organ by Johann Sebastian Bach and a program by free choice. The total duration of the first trial (compulsory piece included) is 20 min. Those admitted to the second trial must perform a program by free choice, for a total duration of 25 min. Besides the interpretation, the jury will judge the choice of the pieces presented in the program.

Programs must show, as much as possible, the diversity of the original litterature for accordion, deriving from the repertoires of the different national “schools” and at the same time including pieces with different styles, age and characteristics.
It is suggested to chose transcriptions covering less than the 30% of the total duration of the program (compulsory piece included). Besides the artistic trophy (to the first three classified), the following sholarships (pretax) and prizes will be awarded:

Category A Soloists up to the age of 10 (born from 2004 onwards) – Single trial
The competitors of category A must present to the jury a program by free choice with a maximum duration of 10 min. Competitors cannot present programs by free choice that are totally constituted by transcriptions.

Category B Soloists up to the age of 12 (born from 2002 onwards) – Single trial
The competitors of category B must present to the jury a program by free choice with a maximum duration of 10 min. Competitors cannot present programs by free choice that are totally constituted by transcriptions.

Category C Soloists up to the age of 15 (born from 1999 onwards) – Single trial
The competitors of category C must present to the jury a program by free choice with a maximum duration of 12 min. Competitors cannot present programs by free choice that are totally constituted by transcriptions.

Category D Soloists up to the age of 18 (born from 2002 onwards) – Single trial
The competitors of category D must present to the jury a program by free choice with a maximum duration of 18 min. Competitors cannot present programs by free choice that are totally constituted by transcriptions.

Category E Soloists with no limits of age – 2 trials
For the first trial, the competitors of category E must perform a “Sonata” by Domenico Scarlatti and a program by free choice with a total maximum duration of 12 min (compulsory piece included). Those admitted to the second trial (approximately 6-8 competitors) must present.



Category F Chamber music – accordions ensamble - no limits of age. Chamber
music accordion groups – from 2 to 9 elements, no limits of age The competitors of category F must present a program by free choice with a maximum duration of 25 min.

Category G Chamber music – accordion and other instruments - no limits of
age. Chamber music groups with accordion and other instruments– (maximun 9 elements, no limits of age - Single trial). The competitors of category G must present a program by free choice with a maximum duration of 25 min.

Light Music Categories

Category H Soloists up to the age of 18 (born from 1996 onwards) – Single trial
The competitors of category H must present to the jury a program by free choice with a maximum duration of 15 min (pieces from varieté, folk, jazz, South American.
Category H results
Category I Soloists with no limits of age – 2 trials
For the first trial the competitors of category I must perform a program by free choice with a maximun duration of 10 min (pieces from varieté, folk, jazz, south-american repertoire in published or unpublished arrangements are accepted). Those admitted to the second trial (approximately 6-8 competitors) must present a program by free choice for a total maximum duration of 15 min.

Category I results
Category L groups and orchestras – no limits of age. Orchestras and groups, with no limits of age, with minimun 2 elements, mainly contituted by accordions, or constituted by accordion and other instruments but where accordion has the main role - Single trial.
The competitors of category L must perform a program by free choice with a maximun duration of 25 min (pieces from light music, varieté, jazz, Piazzolla, film soundtracks, south-american repertoire in published or unpublished arrangements are accepted).

The winning groups of category L must perform in the concert that will take place on Friday the 9th September 2014, at 21.15 at “Astra” Theatre in Castelfidardo. They will perform some pieces from their repertoire, selected by the jury, otherwise the prize may not be awarded.

World Music

Prize Revelation Sete Sóis Sete Luas / Castelfidardo.
Category N Soloists over the age of 18 and with no limits of age – Single trial
Category N is opened to accordion soloists and diatonic accordion soloists with a minimum of 21 bottons in the right keyboard (2 files of bottons) and 8 bass in the left keyboard. Category N is opened only to the competitors coming from the following countries where the Festival Sete Sóis Sete Luas operates: Brazil, Capo Verde, Croatia, France, Greece, Israel, Italy, Morocco, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Spain, Tunisia. The competitors of category N must present to the jury a program by free choice with a maximun duration of 20 min, including arrangements and creative elaborations of pieces from the traditional repertoire of their country of origin or other countries. The jury would appreciate the performance of at least a piece from the traditional repertoire of the competitor’s country of origin, though this is no binding rule. Original compositions generically inspired by ethnic music are accepted.
Category N Results
Category World Music O Ensamble music – no limits of age
Category O is opened to orchestras and groups with no limits of age, with a minimum of 2 elements, with at least an accordion or a diatonic accordion (of every model) or a bandoneon or a digital accordion, because of the main role in the ensemble. Groups with more than a bellow istrument or with only bellow instruments (like the ones cited above) are accepted. The competitors of category O must present to the jury a program by free choice with a maximun duration of 30 min, including arrangements and creative elaborations of pieces from the world music, ethno jazz, ethnic, 11 folk, traditional, tango repertoire. Original compositions generically inspired by ethnic music are accepted. Beside the quality of performance, the jury will take in consideration the artistic project of the group.
Category O

Category M accordion soloists – no limits of age - Single trial
This special category of the competition is instituted in collaboration with
CDMI (Italian Didactic Music Centre).
The competitors of category M must perform a piece by free choice selected
among those of the following list:
