Once again former ATG President Joan Cochran Sommers and Professor Emerita of the University of Missouri-Kansas City will be conducting the 2016 ATG Festival Orchestra. This orchestra always performs three selections on the Saturday evening concert. Rehearsals will be held on Thursday and Friday mornings from 9 to 11 AM as well as on Saturday afternoon at 4 PM for approximately one hour, if needed.
This year the ATG Festival Orchestra will perform the Anthony Galla-Rini symphonic arrangement of Semiramide Overture (Rossini), Over The Rainbow from the movie The Wizard of Oz (Harburg/Arlen) featuring soprano Robyn Hartfield in an arrangement by Joan Sommers, and the Funk Rock piece Springtime by Hans-Gunther Kölz and Martin Kopf.
There are several parts in all three pieces, of course, and most accordionists with some experience in ensembles will find a part suitable for them. Contact Joan Sommers at firstname.lastname@example.org and give her your playing level if you have never played in this or any other orchestra before or if you have questions. All players must register and plan to attend all three rehearsals of the orchestra. As always, this will be a real symphonic type experience for everyone and you are encouraged and very welcome to come share your musical talents with others in making some great music together. We look forward to hearing from you!
