Cong LI, now living in Shanghai, studied in College of Music, Shanghai Normal University (SHNU) during 1978 to 1982 and was taught by the former accordionist of the Shanghai Philharmonic Ms. Jiaping WU. Cong LI, has taught accordion as a teacher in SHNU since 1982. He is now a professor and also dean of Music College in SHNU.

To honor Mr. LI for his devotion and great efforts in promoting Coupe Mondiale in China, President of CIA Mr. Raymond Bodell awarded him the title of “2011 CIA Honorary Vice President”.
In July 1998, LI went to New Zealand to sign a contract there with the founder of Accordions Worldwide Harley Jones and founded the www.accordion.com/china website as the representative of AWW, which built a major platform where Chinese accordion could have the chance to communicate with the world since then. Since that time, this website has grown to include a huge quantity of information recording lots of local and international accordion events in Chinese language.
LI has written and edited numerous accordion text books including the series of text books for Chinese normal universities, books for grade tests and for kids’ and teens’ accordion learning. Besides, he has also composed the memoir 'The Multiple Development for Accordion in China' and various other publications.
In 1999, LI established the LI Cong Accordion School. Students, as many as 3,000 since inception, some of whom became accordion-major students at conservatories and then became accordion teachers.
LI has successfully organized quite a few significant accordion events in China. Among those are:
2006 Shanghai Spring International Accordion Festival,
2008 National Normal University Accordion Diversified Teaching Seminar,
2009 Shanghai Spring National Competition and so on.
All of these events have greatly promoted the future development of the accordion in China.
As a representative of CAA, LI attended many international accordion events and meetings. He worked as a adjudicator at the 58th, 60th – 63rd Coupe Mondiales, Castelfidardo International Accordion Competition and also other national and international competitions.
For years, LI has always been devoted to promoting the all-around development of accordion in China and strengthening the communication between CAA and CIA. He has attended a lot of CIA International Delegates Conferences. In January 2007, LI submitted the member application on behalf of CAA to CIA at the 117th CIA member countries’ meeting. On January 24th, 2007, CIA approved that China had officially become a full Voting Member, and this date became the vital milestone, marking when China accordion entered fully the international accordion family.

|At the 124th CIA International Delegates Conference on Oct.19th, 2010 in Croatia, LI was voted as member of the Music Committee. This is the first time a Chinese delegate has ever become a member since the establishment of CIA in 1935.
At the moment, LI together with his team is sparing no effort in preparing the 64th Coupe Mondiale which will be held in October, 2011 in Shanghai, China. This is widely expected to be the largest attended Coupe Mondiale ever held.
