The Display Cabinets commissioned for the Accordion Gems Display
As the Aratapu Library began its transformation back to its former glory, the display cabinets for the instruments were being hand crafted by local Dargaville artesian Doug Carter. Designed with input from Museum manager Pene McKenzie, the cabinets were crafted from New Zealand native timber of Kauri and Rimu. Several years in the making due to the complexities of working with the native New Zealand timber, that although thousands of years old, was not 100% settled, and so offered numerous challenges as the wood shifted and buckled.

However, despite the delays, the wait was worth every minute, and the spectacular new cabinets took life to showcase the collection of instruments in the display.

As the cabinets came to life, they were transported one by one to the Dargaville Museum where they underwent their final assembly and addition of the Glass shelving and sidings.

Arrival and Assembling of the Cabinets and Displays
With the restoration of the Aratapu Library complete, the Accordion Gems display was ready to be housed in the newly completed Display Cabinets.

As the cabinets arrived, the Music Room took shape, to proudly display the various music related historical items from the Dargaville area.
