L’ American Accordion Musicological Society Accordion Festival avrà luogo in Valley Forge Inn in Valley Forge, Philadelphia dal 2 al 4 marzo.
Le festività inizieranno con un concerto Cajun/Zydeco il venerdi sera con l’artista Ric Kaplan e la concertista Lidia Kaminska. Per il sabato sono in programma concorsi di varie categorie ed alcuni workshop per fisarmonica. Domenica saranno premiati i vincitori con alcuni esibizioni di Mary Tokarski, Jim Vandelly, Rita Davidson, Tony Lovello, Bobby Raye e la Festival Massed Band.
Riconoscimentii speciali per Gli artisti Stanley Darrow e Lenny Feldmann (conosciuto come “The Cordeen Man) riceveranno riconoscimenti speciali durante la cena di gala del sabato sera. Artisti di questa serata: Lovello e Vitaliy Pirog.
La rivista francese ‘Accordéon et Accordéonistes’ illustra una grande varietà di informazioni sul mondo della fisarmonica molto apprezzate da tutti gli appassionati di questo strumento.
In copertina di febbraio Pascal Hamard, uno delle stelle sulla scena della fisarmonica. Sulle pagine interne della rivista si trovano articoli ditattici staccabili di Frédéric Deschamps e Jacques Mornet i quali ogni mese propongono i loro metodi di studio con i quali tanti studenti sono arrivati all’apice dei studi. “2006…Che anno!!! Molto tempo ed energia da un grande numero di persone è stato dedicato per completare l’anno con una programmazione d’alto livello per il “fidale”, la fisarmonica e l’arpa scozzese.
Manifestazioni pubbliche si sono svolte dall’Ayr fino ad Auchtermuchty e da Lochaber a Aberdeen ed i consigli ricevuti sono stati graditissimi. 75 candidati di 4 città e 3 comunità isolane hanno partecipato in una videoconferenza. Questa nuova esperienza di videoconferenze è poi stata sperimentata anche in Benbecula, Lewis, Orkney e Shetland per poi ridefinire questo medium per gli esami.
Al ritorno del suo tour nelle Fiji e Nuova Zelanda (per il congresso CIA, concerti e masterclass) Frédéric Deschamps continuerà con i corsi per i suoi studenti francesi che parteciperanno dal 3 al 4 marzo in La Selle sur le Bied nelle qualificazioni per il Coupe Mondiale.
Gli studenti si troveranno di fronte ad una giura della CNFA (Confédération National Française de l’Accordéon – Lydie Kotala, Frédéric Deschamps, Phil Bouvier e Max Bonnay), il CIA presidente Kevin Friedrich (USA), il Vice Presidente della CIA e CMA (Confédération Mondiale de l’Accordéon) Raymond Bodell della GB.
Durante le qualificazioni si svolgerà un Festival dove saranno presenti ex-campioni Francesi come Jerome Richard, Domi Emorine, ed altri.

Il 10° Balkanfolk Workshop è un seminario internazionale per musica folk e danza del Balkan che si svolge dal 15 al 28 luglio in Bankya, 15 km da Sofia/capitale della Bulgaria. Gli insegnanti sono Danail Totev e Predrag Ivanoviæ (specializzato in musica bulgara e serba).
Durante il programma didattico anche 2 giorni di relax con gite al parco nazionale Vitosha ed il Museo di storia in Sofia.
The Unusual Suspects is a Celtic Big Band formed to perform at the annual Celtic Connections Festival in Glasgow, Scotland. Founded in 2003 by harpist Corrina Hewatt and pianist David Milligan, The Unusual Suspects has over 20 musicians, including accordionists Martin Green and Brian McAlpine.
The Unusual Suspects is more of an idea than a regular line-up judging by the number of new faces on display at the festival’s closing weekend. But what a great idea it is — adding a four-piece horn section, half a dozen fiddles, two piano accordions, extra rhythm and percussion and other doublings to more conventional arrangements.
First and foremost, the sheer numbers do make for a joyful noise. But it is far more than that. This is an idea that people are currently trying to emulate all over the Celtic music world. Using mostly traditional tunes but drawing on lots of jazz influences, the brass is often a sustained choir while the accordions or fiddles are carrying the melody. Together, they add colour, depth and the kind of variety that traditional music, with the best will in the world, sometimes lacks.
The band was cheered to the echo by a delirious crowd, partly because this was such a rare treat.
The band is to headline the 50th anniversary celebrations of the European Union in Berlin next month, playing to an anticipated crowd of 25,000 at the Brandenburg Gate, which should raise their profile a notch.
‘Winter Days of Accordion in Nizhny Tagil’ – Russia
Hungarian accordionist Zoltan Orosz, with guitarist Gabor Ursu and bass player Csaba Pengo were invited to perform at the ‘Winter Days of Accordion in Nizhny Tagil’ Festival.
This competition for young accordionists that took place from February 16th to 18th. Nizhny Tagil is a town 150 km north from the city of Yekaterinburg. Zoltan Orosz took part in the jury, (Zoltan Orosz pictured on the right).
The Zoltan Orosz Trio received a very warm welcome from local audience, especially as the outside temperature was below -30°C. Their program included: ‘La Foule’, ‘Carioca’, ‘Dark Eyes’, ‘French Touch’, ‘Lark’, ‘Laurita’, ‘Fou Rire’, ‘Tico-Tico’, ‘Idu Svati’, and ‘Libertango’.
The 8th International Accordion Festival takes place in several venues in Vienna from February 24th to March 25th. 200 artistes from 27 countries will perform 30 concerts. The guest list includes: Raúl Barboza, Renato Borghetti, Marinette Bonnert & Pere Romaní, Chili Cheeps, Heinz Ditsch, Krzysztof Dobrek, Richard Galliano, Otto Lechner, Martin Lubenov, Madagascar All Stars, Motion Trio, Klaus Paier, Ciro Perez, with his Trio P.S.P., Sascha Shevchenko, Beni Schmid, with Stian Carstensen and Georg Breinschmied, Stefan Sterzinger, Riccardo Tesi, Tini Trampler, Attwenger and Roland Neuwirth, Ulrich Kodjo Wendt, and Zamballarana, and many others.
The NAO UK Championships are to be held on the weekend 4th to 6th May 2007 in Scarborough, Yorkshire. Details of the Opening Gala have recently been announced.
The evening will commence with the Romany Rye and be compered by Gina Brannelli (Past NAO Chairperson) – International stars include Grayson Masefield (New Zealand - picture left), Mario D’Amario – CIA Junior Virtuoso Entertainment Champion 2006 (Italy) and famous jazz accordionist Renzo Ruggiero (Italy - picture right). The evening will provide a wonderful start to a weekend full of competitions and entertainment.
MUSICHE DAL MONDO” Festival della musica e dei popoli giunto alla IV° edizione
Lo scopo del progetto è quello di invitare lo spettatore ad un viaggio ideale che lo conduca all’incontro con diversi mondi, diverse culture, portandolo a confrontare questa realtà con la base dell’umanità comune: attraverso l’arte e la musica vuole inviare un messaggio di unità e di scambio tra popoli e culture.
I mezzi scelti suoni e immagini, perché sia “naturale” il confronto, non mediato dalla razionalità, e, a questo fine, sul palco si avvicenderanno i più disparati generi musicali: dal Jazz allo Swing, dal Tango al Musette, dall’Oriental al Flamenco, dalla Musica Etnica alla Popolare Italiana, dal Folk al Country.
Un evento creato per coinvolgere Associazioni del Territorio, addetti ai lavori, musicisti, appassionati, e,….perchè no?... chiunque voglia solo ascoltare buona musica.
Fiumicino, in questa occasione, come un caleidoscopio musicale tra il mare e le Alpi, oltre i confini del nostro paese, ospita musicisti provenienti da ogni parte d’ Italia e del mondo; si anima di colori, suoni ed atmosfere cosmopolite che le conferiscono un ruolo di finestra sul mondo, che le è appropriato, per la sua posizione geografica, e per le attività mercantili, della sua vita di tutti i giorni, che da sempre le offrono opportunità di incontri nuovi e straordinari.
Il Festival avrà luogo da Giovedì 22 Febbraio a Lunedì 26 Febbraio 2007, presso il Teatro Traiano di Fiumicino, sito in Via Del Serbatoio 24, perché unica struttura del Territorio idonea ad accogliere un tale evento. Ospite nel campo della fisarmonica sarà il noto artista Jean Louis Noton dalla Francia

- Importante tour del Renzo Ruggieri Group (M.Manzi, M.Moriconi, P.Di Sabatino) il 18-19-20 gennaio nei teatri di Casalgrande, Castelnuovo Ne' monti e Fabbrico con la nota Antonella Ruggiero. In questa occasione hanno anche registrato il CD "Musica Divina" che contiene anche il brano presentato a Sanremo 2007 con Renzo presente sul palcoscenico dell'Ariston. Renzo è anche uno degli arrangiatori dell'intero CD.
- E' uscito il CD con di Frederic SCHLICK "THREE BROTHER" con Renzo come arrangiatore e direttore della Piccola Orchestra Moderna (con sezione d'archi + jazz combo); in questo CD c'è una composizione scritta a tre mani dai due artisti con il grande Art Van Damme.
Accordionist and organist Jon Hammond and his quartet, including the great Hungarian tenor sax star Tony Lakatos, will be performing his annual ‘Musikmesse Warm Up Party’ at the Jazzkeller in Frankfurt on the evening of March 27th. The Jazzkeller is located in the middle of Frankfurt very close to the big Alte Oper building on Kleine Bockenheimerstr.
‘Land of Legends: A Journey through the Carpathian Mountains’ is the title of a show presenting Polish, Hungarian and other mid-European music and dance, to be held at the Ritz Theater, Northeast Minneapolis, April 19th to 22nd. Performances are at 8pm each night, with a matinee at 2pm on Sunday 22nd.
The EDT Folk Orchestra, featuring Dee Langley on accordion, will perform the music. According to Colleen Bertsch, music director, "The orchestra is incredibly excited to play the music that Liszt, Brahms, Dvorak, and Bartok found worthy of using as their creative muse. Once you hear traditional music from the Carpathians, you will understand why the great masters depended on this deep well of material: it's earthy, sexy, passionate, and real.”
