A capable Swiss accordionist of Italian origin, a musician with
a lot of experience releases his first CD, the result is "
Origins ".
We can expect almost anything from a first recording. Through
the variety of music on this CD, we learn more about and get to
appreciated the wealth of experience of Marco
Fratantonio.
The artist's accordion background is mostly
in didactic. Marco has learnt from the "Youth Musette Ticino"
and teacher Tino Bonomi, the accordion orchestra Bellinzonese
of M° Luigi Rattaggi and then through numerous inevitable
competitions.
Then there is the academic experience, ranging from the Conservatory
of Fribourg with Milan Novotny; the Conservatory of the Italian
Switzerland with Leslaw Skorsi; the Conservatory in Parma for
film music. To top it off is this artists foray into the entertainment
world; from performing for many years with George Conte in concerts
and recordings, with Rossana Casale, Lucio Fabbri of the PFM and
many other young emerging singers and songwriters.
There are 2 real songs in this CD. With
Judith Rowe on vocals, the songs, titled "I fall in love
only with your dreams" and "White and black" were
both written by Marco Fratantonio. The two songs are refined
and quite elaborate in its melody. The style of the music drifts
towards "soft-jazz " in which the text of Ivan Zorzi
always remains evident, showing Marcos excellent artistic experience.
The other tracks are essentially constituted by good instrumental
music: in two Marco ventures himself on the solo-piano in a bit
of nostalgia (perhaps of his "Origin") whereas for the
rest he performs with his group including
Enzo Zirilli on battery and percussions; Aldo Mella on low electric
and contrabbasso and Nelson Veras on acoustic guitar, creating
good results.
All
the compositions on this CD are by Marco Fratantonio except Modulante
which is by André Aster & Joë Rossi.
The other passages of "Origins" are a mixture of fusion,
fazz and something else ... that makes the entire collection very
beautiful.
While listening to the CD, we are left wondering this artists
"origins " and we the source of his inspiration. The
answer seems to lie in a a picture on the jacket cover of the
CD, a photo of a gentleman giving a small guitar to a child. On
the CD booklet is a dedication; "Devoted to Savsyotr Fratantonio
". It is clear that the title and "Origin " of
this recording is intimate and therefore carries deep emotions
.
