LUCIANO
FANCELLI
This CD is indeed a good way to remember
the fifty years from the death of Luciano Fancelli.
The CD was recorded by the "Sinequanon Akkordeon Ensemble"
- a group formed in 2003 by ex-students of the Conservatory in
Pesaro under the artistic direction of Maestro Sergio Scappini
(Accordion T eacher at the Conservatory in Milan), with the support
of the Radio Station Rete 2 from the Italian speaking region in
Switzerland.
There could only be one possible title for this CD, and that was
to name it after the big Maestro "Luciano Fancelli"
as the CD includes his published accordion music and two more
excellent arrangements of his ("After You've gone and la
cumparsita").
Two more " tributes " have to be added to the composers;
the passage of Sergio Scappini "Homage to Fancelli and Portrait"
by Enzo Veddovi, a passage written for the Composition-Competition
"Fancelli di Terni". Besides this, Scappini has elaborated
two other masterpieces from Fancelli (" Ciri " and "concert
Themes" of Ceccato) for ensemble of eight accordions, and
this enriches even more still looking at this project in a general
vision.
Even
if the notes of the booklet intend to punctualize the didactic
and anthological finality of the piece, the excellence of the
performers as well as the correct and experienced general structure
(noticing the strong intuition of Scappini) of the project giving
it undoubtedly an artistic value.
In
a musical world marked by selfish individual affirmation, one
cannot come around noticing, that the soloists of the different
passages are - wantedly - not indicated. Taking it for granted
that not all musicians have faced this work in the same massive
structure, but it is undoubtedly a fact of a notable understanding
and harmony within the group Sinequanon as well as a sign of wanting
to present a real and sincere " homage " to Fancelli.
Before seeing this CD, I have never had the possibility to listen
to "Basta con le sambe", "Au revoir Madamoiselle
and "Non cosi"; and this last passage has indeed struck
me: it showed the whole generosity and the sensibility of the
great Luciano Fancelli.
Only now, after listening to this CD do i undertstand why the
Musical Association Fancelli in Terni directed by Marco Gatti,
has given this title also to the photographic and documental exposition
organized in Terni and Foligno: a good choice leading to excellent
music....
