Three
"short" disks in which French accordionist Pierre Mussi
introduces 13 of his own compositions. The three works each have
a different style: "Mine Majeure" has the most "varieté"
style and is very close to entertainment music, "Le voyageur"
is more directed to the rhythm of jazz but with a certain revival
style (at certain times almost toward swing) while "Hard
night" proposes a jazz with an actual and modern sound (note:
actual sound, not the structure and performance, as the passages
by Pierre Mussi always are based upon the jazz "standard").
Mussi
is a very fine player, always perfect and expressive, able to
extract from his accordion every possible sound and power to combine
with his extraordinary technique and taste. As a still young composer
we can be certain that he will grow in experience and self-control.
Special attention I would like to
draw to the pieces: "Coup d'feel" - impresses me with
its rhythmic sound and its improvisation; "Sur le feel"
- a slow passage with less notes, giving place to the real musician;
and "Hard Night" - this is without any doubt the bravest
piece as well as the most interesting and modern.
