Meeting leader Beniamino Bugiolacchi opened with a wide ranging speech about the general background including industry production figures, the state of the music industry in general and the overall situation of children and music education internationally. He mentioned the effects of the computer, internet, play stations on numbers of young people learning music.

He covered the role of the accordion, starting historically as a popular folk instrument and entering many other musical fields since then. He felt that the image had remained somewhat static and had not evolved as some other musical instruments had. The accordion was often isolated from other instruments and he wanted to open up a global discussion on the teaching of accordion and suitable repertoire, to increase the attractiveness for young people of learning the accordion. This project would start in Shanghai shortly.

Paolo Picchio, Direttore Artistico for the Castelifdardo competitions and festival also spoke about accordion competitions and cultural events and asked manufacturers to target carefully the competitions and musical events they decided to sponsor. Credibility and maximum benefits to be achieved for the sponsorship should be carefully considered.

A number of people spoke after that. Topics covered including attracting young people to learning accordion, promoting the family culture of playing the accordion and nurturing it in the schools, and ways in which the political guests present could support these aims. The guests also spoke about their aims.

The new trade initiative for 2005 attending the Montreal Jazz Festival in Canada and the 2005 St Petersburg Fair were also announced.
