The
Shanghai Spring International Accordion Festival began today
with an International Accordion Symposium led by Kevin Friedrich,
President of the Confederation Internationale des Accordeonistes
(CIA). The 4 panelists included Kevin Friedrich, Harley Jones,
Viatcheslav Semionov, and Li Cong.

Kevin
Friedrich, based in New York City, presented a lecture about
the CIA, and its 70 years of activities. |
Viatcheslav
Semionov, professor of accordion at the Gnessin Institute
in Moscow, informed the attendees about the accordion situation
in Russia.

|
Harley
Jones (Fiji), Director and Founder of Accordions Worldwide,
presented a lecture pertaining to the accordion and how it fits
in with the Internet and online world. He outlined the negatives,
positives and the future. |
Li
Cong from Shanghai and the Festival Organizer, President
of the Shanghai Accordion Association and Vice President
of the Chinese Accordion Association, presented his seminar
about the situation of the accordion movement in China and
how he views it must continue in the future.

The afternoon
Concert featured the Hof Accordion Quintet (Germany) and the
well known duo of Alexey
Peresidly and Nikolai Sivchuk (Russia).
The capacity audience was treated to a variety of music from
transcriptions of well known classics, to contemporary works.
The performers were honored to have the Mayor of Shanghai,
Mr.
Han Zhen (an accordionist)
in attendance. He later commented that he was extremely impressed
with the performances.

Quintet has won several championships in Europe and performs
arrangements and compositions for both hands, including free

The evening concert featured Antonio Mancini from Italy. Antonio
was the joint winner of the annual CIA Junior International
Competition for Virtuoso Entertainment Music at the recent Coupe
Mondiale Competition.
Born in Atri, Italy, he began to play the diatonic accordion
at the age of 8, and then at age 10 began his accordion studies
at the Accademy Voglia D'arte directed by Renzo Ruggieri.
In 2004 he continued his studies at the APM Music Center directed
by Gianluca Pica of Frosinone.
