Unfortunately I don't have much biographical information about this excellent Czech accordionist Michael Ganian, but I believe this recording 'speaks' good enough for its self! Michael presents him self on this recording not only as an excellent accordionist but as an excellent composer too as all the pieces on this CD are written by him. The whole recording has 'French feel' to it, from its cover to its contents and atmosphere. From what I just said one would think that this CD is full of French traditional musette music for accordion. However, Michael has a very different approach. Although his music is based on French accordion music, it has Michael's very personal touch to it as well as very fresh ideas for the background instruments (which include bass guitar and an entire orchestra). Musically, Michael's performance is very touching emotionally, perhaps because his whole program creates musical atmosphere full of melancholy, sentiment, at times even passion. I find Michael's performance even very sensual! As well as being very emotional and sensitive, he is also brilliant technically. There are a lot of jazzy turns in his performances which give a very special, nice charm to it. Very, very fine recording! |
