Rules of International Accordion Competition

China Tianjin International Accordion Festival presented by Tianjin Conservatory of Music will be held from August 25-29, 2002.

The International Accordion Competition will also be held as a part of the festival.

GROUPS AND REGULAR PIECES
 
1.

Children Group (born after August 25 ,1989)

  Preliminary: Bach Elementary Piano Pieces No.2, No.3 (choose one)
1 or 2 pieces (freely chosen) within 6 minutes
  Final: 1 or 2 pieces (freely chosen but different from the Preliminary) within 10 minutes

2.

Teenager Group (born after August 25, 1986 before August 24, 1989)

  Preliminary: Bach 2-part inventions No.8, No. 9 (choose one)
1 or 2 pieces (freely chosen) within 8 minutes
  Final: Freely chosen pieces (different from the Preliminary) within 20 minutes, including one technical piece while the other pieces showing different styles.

3.

Youth Group (born after August 25, 1983 before August 24, 1986)

  Preliminary: Bach 3-part Inventions No.3 No.8 (chosen one)
Freely chosen the pieces of different styles within 15 minutes (the amount of pieces is not limited).
  Final: Freely chosen pieces (different from the Preliminary) within 20 minutes, including one D.Scarlatti's Sonata while other pieces showing different styles.

Adult Group (born before August 24,1983)

  Preliminary: Bach The Well-Tempered Clavier (choose one from the following four):
Prelude and Fugue No. 5 in D Major, Book 1.
Prelude and Fugue No. 18 in #g minor, Book 1.
Prelude and Fugue No. 2 in c minor, Book 2.
Prelude and Fugue No. 18 in #g minor, Book 2.
Freely chosen the pieces of different styles within 20 minutes (the amount of pieces is not limited).
  Final: Freely chosen pieces (different from the Preliminary) within 30 minutes, Including one D.Scarlatti's Sonata and one multi-movements piece (Sonata, Variation or Suite, etc.). Other pieces can be 20th century contemporary works or nationalistic works.
Attention: All the freely chosen pieces CANNOT be popular music.

5.

Ensemble of Accordions

  (1) Younger than 15 years old (born after August 25,1986)
Less than four accordions, freely chosen pieces of different styles within 12 minutes.
  (2) Older than 16 years old (born before August 24,1986)
Less than four accordions, freely chosen pieces of different styles within 15 minutes.
Attention: Only one round as Final.

6.

Ensemble of Accordions and Other Instruments

  No age limitation.
The orchestra or band should be less than 20 persons, using the Accordion(s) as the leading instruments. Freely chosen pieces of different styles within 20 minutes.

Teenager Group

  1st prize one person RMB¥2000

  2nd prize RMB¥5000
  3rd prize RMB¥2000

Adult Group

  1st prize 20000yuan

Ensemble of Accordions

  Younger than 15 years old:
  1st prize RMB¥2000 per group
  2nd prize RMB¥1000 per group
  3rd prize RMB¥500 per group
 
  Older than 16 years old:
  1st prize RMB¥2500 per group
  2nd prize RMB¥1500 per group
  3rd prize RMB¥800 per group

6.

Ensemble of Accordions and Other Instruments

  1st prize RMB¥3000 per group
  2nd prize RMB¥2000 per group
  3rd prize RMB¥1000 per group

Attention: All the prize money is paid by Chinese RMB. Foreign candidates can get U.S dollars according to the current rate.

All the candidates should carefully fill the registration from, and send it with 2 photographs (1 inch), copies of valid identity certification ( ID card, passport or residence). And send them to

Children and Teenager Group - 200yuan
Youth and Adult Group - 300yuan
Ensemble of Accordions (Younger than 15 years old) - 300yuan per group
Ensemble of Accordions (Older than 16 years old) - 400yuan/per group
Ensemble of Accordion(s) and Other Instruments - 500yuan/per group

Candidates can send the registration fee through their local Post office. Please don't send the cash in the envelope. Candidates should write their names on the remit draft.

COMPETITION NOTICE

1.

The performing order of each group is decided by sortition.

2. All the candidates should prepare their pieces according to the above rules. All the pieces should played without be canceled. If ones pieces are not allowed, the qualification of the candidates would be canceled. If ones pieces are longer than the asking time, the adjudicators will stop of the performance, which will not affect the results.
3.

The results of each group will be proclaimed to public on the board.

4. The adjudicators are composed of Chinese and Foreign experts.
5. The winners of each group are obliged to take part in the winner concert and award ceremony. Otherwise, they will automatically loose their qualification of winning prize.
6. All the candidates who enter the Final Round of each group will be granted a certificate
7. The enrollment is at Tianjin Conservatory of Music on August 24, 2002. A copy of program is needed.
8. The Festival Committee will provide the lodging and food for Foreigner candidates.
9. Electric instrument is not allowed for all the candidates.
   
  The Festival Committee holds the final right of all the explanation.
