In 1954, in a small town
of Italy called Cisterna Di Latina, Mario, violonist at Scala de Milano opens
a small music studio and welcomes the six years old bambino Luciano to teach
him the rudiments of music. His mother soon noticed that he could
read music better than writing his own name!
Raised in an environment of pure Italian tradition, little Luciano soon got soaked by the spirit of this sunny music. All the village gatherings and familly celebrations were animated by the sound of the accordion and Luciano was always there with his accordion. He remembers his grand father playing his diatonic Paolo Soprani. Sitting on his grand father's knees, Luciano loved to fool around with the Soprani. At twelve years old, he begins serious study of the accordion with teacher Antonio Rambaldi. That's the time he began his friendship with Paolo Vani, an other student of Rambaldi and together, they carried further their study of the accordion. Appeared at numourous folk festivals in the Montreal region and vicinity. Here is the text accompanying the photo as we could read in "The Gazette", a major daily newspaper of Montreal in Jully 1964: "ITALIAN FESTIVAL: Three members of the Gruppo Folkloristico Friulano, left to right, Elida Francescutti, Luciano Testani and Lina Mion pose for the Gazette photographer at the Italian Festival finals held last night in the Casa d'Italia. Winners of the competition will present their acts at the 16th annual Italian Festival at Belmont Park July 26 at 12.30 p.m." The Gazette July 1964. With this group, he represents Italy at Expo 67 where he played at the Italian pavillion. The year after, he will play at Place des Nations of Terre des Hommes. His traditional italian music career's apogee will be its participation at the very big Folk Festival presented at the Montreal Forum playing in front of a crowd of over 17,000 people. At 20 and after 5 years of folk music, he decides to take a turn
in his musical direction devoting himself to pop music for weddings and
receptions. This context will bring him to perform regurarily at l'Union
Française of Montreal for three years and during one year, animates
an italian night at Elmridge Golf Club. For its annual dances, ADAM
will hire him as the leader accordionist. Site constructed and hosted by: Accordions Worldwide at www.accordions.com
