From September 28th to October 2nd Castelfidardo, home of the accordion, is preparing for 5 intense days of festival and competitions.

Antonio SpaccarotellaHere is the PIF 2021, the accordion competition with a history, tradition, quality and stature of the artists for over 45 years. The International Accordion Prize has reached its 46th edition and has every intention of continuing to amaze and be live again after last year's "remote" edition.

Promoted by the Municipality and Pro Loco of Castelfidardo, with the patronage of the Marche Region, the Ancona Chamber of Commerce and SIAE, the event was presented today by the Councilor for Culture of Castelfidardo Ruben Cittadini and the PIF Artistic Director Antonio Spaccarotella.

"I am thrilled to think of a PIF with audiences back in attendance after this streaming period - said Spaccarotella. 2021 will be an innovative event whose common thread remains the passion for the accordion and the love for good music. For the first time we will have a resident philharmonic orchestra and a billboard, a container for musicians and artists from different backgrounds".

The City Councilor announces "an unforgettable week of joy and energy thanks to this event that characterizes Castelfidardo in the world".

From September 28th to October 2nd, great names of the Italian music scene will arrive in the Marche town on the hills of Monte Conero.

The competitions are divided into several sections according to genres. From jazz to electronics, from classical to world music, the battle between the participants, also divided by age, is based on notes and performances.

Ruben CittadiniThe main prize, awarded in the Premio category, will see an overall winner, selected by an international quality jury, chaired by accordionist and composer Corrado Rojac. There will also be special prizes, including the one for the best female performer, designed to support the career of musicians and promote female talent, not always adequately represented on national and international stages.

Up for grabs is large prizes, cash prizes divided between the winners of the various categories, record productions with important labels and engagements to perform in the most prestigious festivals and peak musical seasons in Italy and abroad.

The festival will open on Tuesday 28 September with the inaugural concert by Eugenio Bennato at the Parco delle Rimembranze. Main stage that was not chosen by chance: it is the place where the Monument to the Victorians of Castelfidardo stands in memory of the homonymous fundamental battle of the Risorgimento, viaticum for the annexation of Marche and Umbria to the Kingdom of Italy, of which this year the 160th anniversary falls.

The PIF will close on Saturday 2 October, with the great concert by Stefano Bollani (with Antonello Salis). Among the performers of this edition is Filippo Arlia, one of the youngest and most appreciated international masters, director of the resident Philharmonic Orchestra of Calabria. It will be he who will accompany Bennato at the opening of the PIF. We will also find him again on Thursday 30 September to accompany Mirco Patarini and Renzo Ruggieri and on Friday 1 October at the Cinema Teatro Astra in the Duettango concert with Silvia Mezzanotte, as well as alongside the Premio PIF finalists.

The Castelfidardo Municipal Administration is led by Mayor Roberto Ascani, the Castelfidardo Pro Loco headed by Ruben Cittadini, and newly appointed, on 15 February 2021, PIF Artistic Director Antonio Spaccarotella.

Despite his relatively young age, Antonio Spaccarotella is undoubtedly one of the brilliant and multifaceted accordionists of the new generation.

PIF Castelfidardo 2021 will run from 28 September to 02 October, and because of the choice of the Castelfidardo Mayor Roberto Ascani and the councilor Ruben Cittadini, the event will rely on the youngest Artistic Director ever.

Anotonio Spaccarotella, boasts a curriculum and an artistic career that is very important in the music scene. Holder of the chair of accordion at the Conservatory of Music of Catanzaro P.I. Tchaikovsky, production director of the Calabrian Philharmonic Orchestra, one of the most popular emerging orchestras on the international scene, and has also given concerts in 40 countries and advanced training courses in the most prestigious universities and conservatories in the world.

Antonio Spaccarotella has great respect and gratitude for the many editions that have forged and made PIF Castelfidardo what it is today. For this reason he has in mind to give an innovative imprint that is, at the same time, respectful of the traditional vision, convinced that the balance between the two souls of the accordion is essential for the relaunch of the instrument in the didactic, artistic and commercial context.
