15ème Festival International d’Accordéon de Vienne 2014 - Autricheby Rob Howard |
 Ce festival international d’accordéon se tiendra en différents lieux de Vienne, du 22 février au 23 mars. Le zoom est mis cette année sur les pays voisins de l’Autriche.Téléchargez le programme de 37 pages : 2014Vienna Un double concert ouvre le festival : le 22 février, dans le majestueux hall à coupole de l’Université technologique de Vienne, le duo austro-croate de Klaus Paier (photo de gauche) et Asja Valcic jouera avec des musiciens folk d’Autriche, Italie et Russie. Le lendemain, 23 février, aura lieu le « Gala d’ouverture 2 » au Porgy & Bess avec l’orchestre local de 11 musiciens Grossmütterchen Hatz. Un liste impressionnante d’autres artistes et groupes est au programme.  En l’honneur du 80ème anniversaire de Joan Cochran Sommers, l’accordéoniste bien connu Stas Venglevski a réalisé un nouveau CD de pièces originales pour duo d’accordéon 'Summer Sunshine', enregistré avec Joan en second duettiste.Le CD comprend 14 pièces originales. Plusieurs titres ont aussi pour invités Michael Britz (basse) et Andy Lo Duco (batterie). Joan Sommers a été honorée du titre de Professeur Emérite suite à sa retraite de l’Université du Missouri – Kansas City Conservatory of Music (USA) où elle s’était établie et enseigna dans le cursus diplômant d’accordéon pendant 40 années. Durant sa vie professionnelle dans le domaine de l’accordéon, Joan Sommers a été membre de plusieurs organisations musicales, dont l’Accordionists & Teachers Guild, International (ATG) et la Confédération Internationale des Accordéonistes (CIA – IMC-UNESCO). La professeure Sommers continue à participer à des jurys, former des solistes, écrire des arrangements pour orchestres d’accordéon, diriger régulièrement de ceux-ci et s’investit fièrement aujourd’hui dans son rôle de Vice-Président de la CIA. A la CIA, c’est elle qui a fondé le spectaculaire World Accordion Orchestra qui a donné des concerts partout dans le monde, de l’Ecosse à la Chine et la Nouvelle-Zélande et présentera cette année sa huitième édition à Salzburg, Autriche, début novembre. Son sens artistique, sa technique éblouissante et sa sensibilité ont apporté à Stanislav ‘Stas’ Venglevski, natif de la République de Moldavie, ancienne partie de l’Union Soviétique, un succès grandissant de virtuose du Bayan. Double vainqueur de concours de Bayan en république moldave, Stas Venglevski est diplômé de l’académie de musique de Moscou où il a obtenu son Master de Musique sous le tutorat de Friedrich Lips. Il a immigré aux USA en 1992. Le répertoire de Stas' comprend ses compositions originales et un large choix de musiques classique, contemporaine et ethnique. Il a beaucoup tourné en soliste à travers l’ancienne Union Soviétique, le Canada, l’Europe et les USA, et aussi avec Doc Severinsen, Steve Allen et Garrison Keillor dans le cadre du Prairie Home Companion Show. Il a donné la première mondiale du Concerto N° 2 d’Anthony Galla-Rini, et également la première de ‘Bayan and Beyond’, composé pour lui par Dan Lawitts. Il participe régulièrement au Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra's Arts dans son Community Education Program (ACE) ; Il a joué avec le Chicago Symphony Orchestra et le Tacoma Symphony Orchestra ; il a participé à des publicités TV, à des productions théâtrales ainsi qu’à de nombreuses séances de studio. Ces deux accordéonistes si différents ont combiné leur passion et leurs talents dans le domaine de l’accordéon pour donner une couleur fraîche et esthétique aux oeuvres de Stas Venglevski qui englobent une grande variété de styles, de l’humour à la mélancolie en passant par le musette et plus encore.  La Santa Cecilia group, basé à Los Angeles a conquis une audience nationale depuis quelques années et remporté cette année avec ‘Treinta Días’l’award du meilleur album Rock Latin/Urbain/Alternatif pour leur début sur un grand label.Si vous n’avez pas encore écouté leur unique et énergétique fusion de rythmes rock, jazz et latino — et la voix incroyable de Marisol Hernandez — cherchez leur showcase sur NPR. Terrance Simien & The Zydeco Experience, de Louisiane, a été couronné Meilleur album de musique à racines régionales pour Dockside Sessions. Simien est non seulement un fantastique musicien mais il fut un acteur-clé de la création de l’éphémère prix du meilleur album Cajun/Zydeco, renouvelé en 2008, et qu’il a plus tard remporté. La légende du Zydeco, Clifton Chénier, a également été honoré à titre posthume d’un award pour l’ensemble de son oeuvre. Si vous avez regardé les Grammy 2014 en prime time, vous aurez peut-être noté que les Beatles ont reçu la même distinction. Bonne compagnie pour le roi du Zydeco, non ? |

 Spanish accordionist, composer and historian, Gorka Hermosa has celebrated the 25th anniversary of his first concert with the release of a new CD ‘Heterodoxia’, a collection of hitherto unpublished recordings.In this album, there is a variety of recordings that perfectly reflect the unorthodox musical personality of this musician, ranging from contemporary music, to jazz and roots music (tango, Iberian folklore, flamenco ...). Gorka Hermosa, Professor of Accordion at the Conservatorio de Santander, Spain, is the author of ‘The Accordion in the 19th Century’ (published in 2013), an academic and detailed study of the evolution of the accordion and its free reed relatives and composer of accordion works that have been performed in many countries of the world.   The annual ‘Accordions at the Castle’ festival takes place from May 11th to 16th at the Norbreck Castle Hotel, Blackpool, Lancashire. The festival includes concerts, meet the guest sessions, orchestral workshops, Scottish dancing, and a trade show.The guests booked to date include Giancarlo Caporilli (Italy), David Vernon (Scotland), Denise Leigh (operatic soprano) & Stefan Andrusyschyn (accordion), Harry Hussey, Rosemary Wright, and Bert Santilly. Caroline Hunt will display some of her large collection of antique accordions. There is also an organ/keyboard festival taking place in the hotel, May 11th/16th, complete with its own huge trade show.  Mother Nature couldn't stop Angelo DiPippo or his diehard admirers from braving a heavy snowstorm to attend New Hampshire Accordion Association's Afternoon with Angelo DiPippo on January 18th 2014 at Accordion Connection LLC, Gilmanton, NH.As white flakes coated the trees, DiPippo, who has collaborated with countless illustrious names in the music industry, presented a master class with accordionists Richard Messina and Doreen Kimball, offered anecdotes, and took questions about his long, storied career as a performer, arranger, composer, conductor, and producer. The first annual NHAA Membership Kickoff Dinner followed at a cozy bistro in Manchester with Angelo DiPippo as guest of honor.  The Accordions Worldwide news for the week ending February 4th 2000 included a report of accordionists celebrating the New Year in China – a happy occasion indeed!Accordionists Greet the Chinese New Year – China Contributed by Li Cong A "Greet the Chinese New Year with the Accordion" party was held at the Li Cong Accordion School, Shanghai on January 30th. Over 600 students and families attended the event, which included a 250 person accordion orchestra performance and a variety of accordion games for the children such as ‘Big Challenge’ and ‘Playing Freely’. One of the most influential Shanghai newspapers ‘New People Evening’ (Xinming Evening) included a report on the event. This Chinese New Year (February 5th) is the Golden Dragon Year, which only comes once every 60 years. Chinese people believe it is a very lucky year. |

| The Shootout is a family event designed to expand and promote Cajun music and culture. The contest is open to diatonic nine-and-ten-button Cajun accordion players of all ages. The competition features FOUR divisions - Youth, Junior and Adult Divisions while the newest division - Professionals - includes players of all ages. The prizes include recognition as the 2012 Cajun Accordion Champion, as well as trophies and a $500 Grand Prize in the youth, junior and adult divisions. $100 second prizes and $50 third prizes will also be awarded. The professional division will have only one winner and that contestant will take home $600 in cash and a 17” tall trophy.  On Sunday February 2nd, 8pm, accordionist Robert Black is the guest at the Arbroath Box & Fiddle Club, Arbroath Golf Club, Elliot, Angus DD11 2PE.Robert Black comes from an accordion playing family, and has been an All Scotland Champion no less than five times. His accompanying skills have been employed by most of Scotland's leading artistes including Andy Stewart, Kenneth McKellar, Bill McCue, Moira Anderson and Valerie Dunbar. He has worked in several London musical productions such as ‘Irma Le Deuce’ and ‘Fiddler on the Roof’, and is also a jazz accordionist. |

  On Sunday February 9th, 10am until 5pm the NAO Thames Area Accordion Festival takes place in Hatfield Heath Village Hall, Bishops Stortford, Herts CM22 7EA. The festival organiser is local accordion teacher Stella Hughes.This year’s NAO North West Area Accordion Festival takes place on Sunday February 23rd at St Matthew's Church Hall, Chapel Lane, Stretford M32 9AJ (close to the M60).  Finnish accordionist Mika Väyrynen will perform a series of concerts in February and March with symphony orchestras.His first appearance will be at the Kotka Concerthouse at 7pm on February 12th performing renowned composer Erkki-Sven Tüür's ‘Prophecy’ - Concerto for accordion and Symphony Orchestra with the Kymi Sinfonietta under the direction of Alexander Mickelthwate. They will perform the work again on February 13th at the Kouvola City Hall at 7pm. On February 27th, at 7pm, Mika will perform Aulis Sallinen's Chamber Music V – ‘Barabbas Variations’ - with the Pori Sinfonietta under the direction of Juha Kangas at the Promenadehall. To conclude the series, on March 12th he will once again perform Erkki-Sven Tüür's ‘Prophecy’ - Concerto for accordion and symphony orchestra at the Jyväskylä Teatherhouse at 7pm with the Jyväskylä Sinfonia under the direction of Olari Elts.  A Winter Accordionists’ Weekend takes place from February 21st to 23rd at eco-centre Chaloupky, Knežice u Jihlavy, Czech Republic.This will be a weekend workshop with an easy atmosphere, where players have the opportunity to meet other accordionists, play together and talk. There will be thematic workshops, an exchange of scores and recordings, practising together, individual consultations or playing and singing in the evenings.
