Poster
The Jubilee Concert to honor "15 Years of Bete Ilin's Compositions" was held on November 12th in the Chamber Hall of the Macedonian Philharmonic in Skopje.

The jubilee celebrated these 15 very successful years from the first concert performance of Bete Ilin's composition "Scherzo" for accordion until today.

The concert featured renowned artists from Macedonia and top students of music performing 14 works composed between the two jubilees and for different instruments, voice and ensembles. Picture left: Marija Gjoshevska and Elena Atanasovska

Bete’s first instrument and big love, the accordion, enjoyed an important role in the concert, with Bete's compositions for other instruments like piano, violoncello, saxophone, guitar etc. also featured.

The performance of the composition "The New Tomorrow" performed by Grayson Masefield with the string orchestra of the Berlin Philharmonic conducted by Maestro Vladimir Zubitsky, May 26th this year in Berlin, was projected on the big screen.

The culmination of the concert was the performance of the composition "Duellum" performed by AkordioM (accordionists Zorica Karakutovska and Filip Stameski) and the string orchestra (picture above) conducted by Bete Ilin which had performed the premiere earlier in 2018 for the May 6th World Accordion Day concert in Skopje.

This excellent concert in honor of Bete Ilin was enjoyed by a very enthusiastic audience, who gave a standing ovation to the composer and performers. Picture below.

The concert was supported by the national program of the Ministry of Culture, Republic of Macedonia.

Cultural Mission to Seoul Representing the Marche Region - South Korea, Italy

Mission Group
Gary BlairOpen a commercial and cultural promotion in the expanding market of a rich country promoting the quality of "made in Castelfidardo" accordions with live appreciation of the versatility and genres of the instrument in very different musical contexts.

This is the objective of the "Mission South Korea", a delegation of five musicians representing five accordion companies of Castelfidardo who were in Seoul from 4 to 9 November. The performers were:
- Gary Blair (Pasco Italia)
- Giuseppe di Falco (Beltuna)
- Andrea Naspi (Pigini)
Marco Lo Russo  (Bugari)
- Antonio Spaccarotella (Scandalli)

Thanks to the financial support of the Marche Region (Department of Culture), with the patronage of the Comune di Castelfidardo and the Associazione Music Marche Accordions as Project Leader for this misson.

"An innovative, advanced and intelligent project that we wanted to support that gives an institutional breath to the product of craftsmen, entirely produced in our territory, "said the regional Councilor for Culture Moreno Pieroni who announced the intention of "giving continuity of funding to the law that provides for interventions across the board in favor of “all accordion promotion".

The mission has availed itself of the precious collaboration of the Italian Embassy in Seoul and the Italian Cultural Institute, thanks to which, through concerts and meetings with the media, a parallel track has been run: "Feeding the creation of a new musical fashion , since the accordion is linked to a stereotype of entertainment in Korea, to promote the infinite potentials that are not so well known in other genres and in combination with other instruments ", said the president of Music Marche Paolo Picchio, adding that "when you then look for a quality accordion, you can not come to Castelfidardo".

On the positive results of an action to be continued, the administration's prerogative of the production activities Romina Calvani expressed, applauding the "effects of a synergy between bodies, associations and entrepreneurs of a small district with exceptional numbers that today there are 25 active companies, around a hundred in related industries and around a thousand employees ".

From the members of the delegation that played among other things at the Spiegen Hall in Seoul, at Casa Italia in front of prestigious guests and also recorded a significant special program that will be broadcast on the cultural channel Arte Tv, is concrete testimony of a successful mission.

"An important opportunity to spread the culture of the instrument, to give emotions and to raise the quality of the accordion's teaching", said Roberto Ottavianelli, Director of the company Bugari, the only entrepreneur present on the mission.

"Our performances have been received with great interest, attention, curiosity, desire to learn repertoire and didactics: a niche market but very fertile, which effected teachers and the musical departments of University institutions", said accordionists Marco Lo Russo (Bugari), Andrea Naspi (Pigini), Giuseppe Di Falco (Beltuna), Antonio Spaccarotella (Scandalli) and Gary Blair (Pasco Italia) who received positive feedback that exceeded all expectations.

“Students and Friends” recital @ Harrington ARTS Center, Wisconsin – USA

A marathon of music-making on November 11th, marked the “Students and Friends” recital presented at Harrington ARTS Center (Superior, WI) by the dual studios of Accordion Concertina Music located in Burnsville, MN, and Superior, WI.

The day began at 10am with a final rehearsal of nine orchestral pieces that joined bands from each studio - united only through parallel practices and director/instructor Helmi Harrington (picture below). Over 30 students, ranging in age from 7 to 80+ years came from distances as much as five hours away to play in the 5 ½-hour concert beginning at 1pm..

In addition to the focal orchestral works, the acoustically ideal Hanni Strahl Concert Hall resounded with ensembles, duos, and solos ranging from medieval to contemporary periods and a few year-end holiday melodies. The music was enhanced by instruments of the A World of Accordions Museum collection, including variously enhanced piano accordions, assorted diatonic and chromatic button accordions with standard-bass and free-bass left-hand sections.

Special effects were contributed by our unique bells-controlled piano accordion, four Titano Tigers, musette, cello and bass accordions, English concertina, djembe, glockenspiel, marimbaphone and guitar.

Renowned conductor Tracey Gibbens (Duluth, MN) admirably led the students, symphony bass-violist Jim Waechter, symphony violinist Carolyn Carver and volunteers through complex interpretations. As an aspiring accordionist himself, Tracey also played in solo, duet, ensemble and orchestra.

Paul Vargason (Superior, WI) was featured performer during the program. Paul, an artist on piano-, chromatic button-, and diatonic accordions, presented an entertaining, virtually perfect and fully memorized 30-min. program heavily flavored by Pecon-Trolli music. He performed on his Helmi-designed Slovenian four-row button diatonic accordion. In recognition of Slovenian pro Shelby Setnikar and Helmi, his mentor of 26 years, he invited their participation in several numbers.

Open to the public, over 100 people were treated to a wonderful assortment of refreshments including lunch and supper dishes donated by members of the band as organized by Marian Syrjamaki-Kuchta, Shelby Setnikar and Robin Floyd.

Many toured the museum displays and expressed awe at the combined offerings of the day - all without admission charge. The performances were recorded and may be made available at a later date.
