CMA TROFEO MUNDIAL 2015 – MARTIGNY – SUIZA

65th CMA Trophée Mondial
Frédéric Deschamps and Yves MoulinCMA Trophée Mondial logoEl célebre Trofeo Mundial se celebrará este año en Martigny, Suiza del 20 al 25 de octubre, por uno de los delegados de la CMA de Suiza, Yves Moulin (imagen izquierda).

El presidente de la CMA Frédéric Deschamps (imagen izquierda) manifiesta su alegría al poder compartir la experiencia con Suiza, ya que desde 1984 no había acogido este evento.

En los últimos años el Trofeo Mundial ha acogido a participantes de más de 20 nacionalidades diferentes. Además de las categorías tradicionales (Senior y Junior Classique, National Trophee -Masters-, Senior y Junior Variéte y World Music), se incluirán cuatro categorías paralelas para menores de 10 años, menores de 12 años, y menores de 15 años (todas las edades señaladas incluidas). Este evento reúne a motivados jóvenes talentos así como concertistas ya consagrados, con un excelente nivel de premios en metálico.

JÖRGEN SUNDEQVIST ESTRENA “THE ACCORDION KING” (EL REY DEL ACORDEÓN) – SUDSVALL – SUECIA

The Accordion King PosterJ. Sundeqvist fue el solista de la Nordic Chamber Orchestra, dirigida por Niklas Willén, para el estreno de “The Accordion King”, un nuevo concierto multimedia escrito por Fredrik Högberg.

Mirco Patarini escribe: “He tenido el honor de ser invitado para asistir al estreno los días 22 y 23 de enero del presente año, fechas que de seguro formarán ya parte de la historia de nuestro querido instrumento.

Las dos salas en Kramford y Sundswall se llenaron completamente y tuve el privilegio de conocer al compositor y aprender -y comprender- la historia detrás del concierto multimedia y su título.

Ha sido una inolvidable experiencia formar parte de una completa inmersión en la historia del acordeón en Suecia, pero aún más importante fue la calidad y complejidad de esa nueva música.

Deseo un gran éxito a Fredrik Högberg, y mucho ánimo para continuar su labor de aportación al repertorio de acordeón, y no quiero perder la ocasión de felicitar a Jörgen por su inolvidable interpretación”.

La música del concierto se intercala con al menos tres pantallas con imágenes en movimiento, interrelacionadas con la música, de un marcado carácter en ocasiones humorístico y en ocasiones sensual, pero siempre estructuralmente coherente y atractivo para todos los públicos.

Enhorabuena a los creadores de este magnífico monumento musical.

El 17 Festival de Invierno de Kokkola se desarrolla del 15 al 22 de febrero, presentando una diversa oferta de actuaciones y eventos. El director artístico es Raimo Vertainen (imagen derecha). Descarga el programa en: 2015Kokkola

Se escuchará música de alto nivel en las calles, merados, esquinas, ¡Toda la ciudad bailará al ritmo de acordeón! Participarán jóvenes virtuosos, se ofrecerán conciertos para niños y adultos, música en el mercado, orquestas de acordeones, hasta cantantes de ópera, desde luego una oferta amplia para todos los públicos.

El sábado 21 de febrero acontecerá el evento más esperado: la actuación de la orquesta Guardia Nueva dirigida por Raimo Vertainen. Los solistas que participarán son nombres como Tango King Teemu Roivainen, Satamakadun Seiroeenit y Oona Airola.

EVA ZÖLLNER TRIBUTO A LA MÚSICA NUEVA DE MEXICO – GEORGIA- EEUU

Eva ZöllnerEl 25 de enero el nuevo ensemble de música Bent Frequency interpretó un concierto en el Kopleff Recital Hall, Georgia State University, con tres invitados especiales y la acordeonista Eva Zöllner (imagen izquierda). El concierto fue el evento de cierre para el gran Festival de Nueva Música de Mexico.

Tres obras de Trigos formaron la mayoría del programa. La obra que incluía a Eva Zöllner fue “Symphoinia” para acordeón sólo por Georgina Derbez. Derbez, nativa de la ciudad de Mexico, donde es parte de la Facultad de Composición en la Escuela Superior de Musica y el Centro Nacional de Bellas Artes.

Zöllner es una intérprete en la que uno rápidamente encuentra una gran intuición y sensibilidad musical, formada en la Academy of Music de Cologne, Alemania, y la Royal Danish Academy of Music de Copenhague, se dedica de pleno a la música de nueva creación, la música contemporánea de ámbito académico.

La noche siguiente en Eyedrum se realizó un concierto en el que volvía a participar nuestra protagonista, interpretando obras contemporáneas para acordeón sólo, precedido de un set de música y vídeo por el compositor nativo de Atlanta Adam Scott Neal. La mitad del programa estuvo formado por compositores contemporáneos del Norte de Europa, las cuales exploran las numerosas capacidades del acordeón.

Eva Zöllner también fue invitada a interpretar en el Red Room de Baltimore y Spectrum de Nueva York y presentó un par de talleres para compositores antes de regresar a Alemania para un concierto en Marburg.

2014 SLIGO ALL IRELAND FLEADH CHEOIL EN RTE – REPÚBLICA DE IRLANDA

All Ireland FleadhFleadh Cheoil na hÉireann es el más célebre festival de música tradicional irlandesa, donde el acordeón se encuentra presente por doquier.

El canal de TV irlandés RTE grabó música y danza en el 2014 All Ireland Fleadh Cheoil, celebrado en Sligo el pasado agosto. El primero de seis programas semanales fue retransmitid el 23 de enero de 2015 a las 19:30.

En esta semana se incluye en RTE1 al gaitero Padraig McGovern acompañado por el acordeonista Peter Carberry, el grupo Goitse (imagen) y la cantante Maura O'Connel. Los presentadores son John Creedon y Aoibhinn Ní Shúilleabháin.

Nihad Hrustanbegovic ‘Four Seasons’ CD Release – Netherlands

Nihad HrustanbegovicDutch-based Bosnian accordionist Nihad Hrustanbegovic’s solo album release of ‘The Four Seaons’, by Vivaldi, takes place on Valentine's Day Saturday February 14th.

The CD, on the Zefir Records label, will be available in all classical CD record shops and Libris bookshops in the Netherlands, Belgium, and Luxemburg, on ITunes, Bol.com, and via Amazon.

Nihad Hrustanbegovic has recently performed ‘The Four Seaons’ in concert halls around The Netherlands, and in 2015 there are concerts forthcoming in Brussels, Paris, Vienna, and Istanbul.

Arthur Spink LPs on CD, Scotland – UK

Arthur Spink CD CoversArthur Spink, from Dundee, Scotland, began his career in show business when he was just 17, having started playing the accordion at the age of 5, and competed successfully in many NAO contests. He spent many years touring the world as a popular accordion entertainer, and became a household name in Scottish music circles. In the late 1970s he switched from acoustic accordions to the Cordovox electronic accordion.

Before emigrating to Australia in 1980, Arthur Spink recorded for the Beltona label in the 1960s and 70s, and made several best-selling LPs. These albums have been recently reissued on four CDs, each containing two LPs.

Nick Ariondo Featured With the Hollywood Studio Symphony Orchestra - USA

Nick AriondoHighly regarded Nick Ariondo was featured with the Hollywood Studio Symphony Orchestra at a one-time orchestra performance of the award winning Godfather film (Part 1).

Francis Ford Coppola’s masterpiece film was screened as the Hollywood Studio Symphony performed Nino Rota’s timeless score live, conducted by Justin Freer. The concert was held on 24th January at the Nokia Theatre, LA Live, in downtown Los Angeles.

‘14 Years Ago’: Campbell Bettridge’s Intrepid Journey To A Gig - Fiji

Campbell BettridgeThe Accordions Worldwide news for the week ending February 2nd 2001 included an item describing the lengths accordionist Campbell Bettridge (New Zealand Accordion Champion 1993, 94 and 2001 and 3rd place 2002 Coupe Mondiale Piano Accordion category) went to in order to do some entertaining in Fiji.

The life of an gigging accordionist is not all chauffeur driven limousines, de luxe hotels, and champagne receptions. Bravo, Campbell!

ACCORDIONIST ENTERTAINS VILLAGERS - FIJI

New Zealand accordionist Campbell Bettridge entertained over 200 villagers on the island of Kadavu in Fiji recently. To get to the venue Campbell had to transport his accordion via a small boat, then carry it up a winding track by torch light! The villagers enjoyed Campbell's program which included ‘Flight of the Bumblebee’ and a Rock 'n Roll medley.

CT Tango EnsembleThe CT Tango Ensemble perform at the Artscape Theatre, D F Malan St, Foreshore, Cape Town, 8001, South Africa, on Saturday morning January 31st, 9am until 2pm. Their CDs ‘El Tango en Africa’, ‘Tango Club’, and ‘Tango Dreams’ will be on sale.

Formed in 1996, the members of the CT Tango Ensemble are Stanislav Angelov - bandoneon, accordion, arranger, Albert Combrink - piano, arranger, composer, Petrus de Beer – violin, and Charles Lazar - double bass, composer.

NAO Thames Area Accordion Festival, Hertfordshire - UK

NAO 2015 PosterLarysa BodellThe NAO Area Festival season 2014/2015 continues its season with the Thames Area Festival to be held at Hatfield Heath Village Hall, Bishops Stortford, Herts CM227EA on Sunday 8th Feb.

The Thames Area organizer is local accordion teacher Stella Hughes and her organisation has attracted some 100 entries. The day commences at 10.00 am and the adjudicator is Larysa Bodell (picture right).

The festival is one of the series held until early March throughout England, Scotland and Northern Ireland and are qualifying competitions for the NAO UK Championships 2015.

At the end of February is the Northern Ireland Area Festival in Larne on Saturday 28th February.

This is followed by the 2015 NAO UK Championships which in 2014 attracted nearly 300 entries. The NAO UK Championships are being from 17th – 19th April at the Adelphi Hotel, Liverpool.

As well as the national finals, this event will host International Solo categories for both classical and variety music and an International Orchestra category.

Donal Ring Ceili Band Residency, Blarney – Irish Republic

Donal RingThe Donal Ring Ceili Band is resident on Sunday nights for dancing, 9pm until 11pm, at Christy's Hotel, Blarney, County Cork. Shand Morino accordionist Donal Ring is a veteran of the Irish music scene, with a career dating back to the 1950s.

"When I started out, I paid £212 for an accordion, and £190 for my house site. But the accordion, paid through hire purchase, took me longer to clear. The early years were tough, but things got better and I still play that same Shand Morino accordion today," said Donal.

Since forming his famous band in 1958, Donal Ring has kept the ceili sound alive in dance halls and theatres all over Ireland, Europe, USA and Canada. The band has recorded many CDs over the years, and made numerous TV and radio appearances — and their first ever DVD is now available.

Russian Folk and Gypsy Night with Mazaika, London - UK

Accordion Orchestra Day, Cambridge – UK

On Sunday February 22nd the Cambridge Accordion Club will host an Accordion Orchestra Day with Nigel Pasby, MD of the Kennet Accordion Orchestra, and assisted by Helen Newton. Accordion Master Class, Alteglofsheim – Germany

Teodoro Anzellotti and Stefanie SchumacherAn accordion master class with Teodoro Anzellotti and Stefanie Schumacher takes place from March 30th to April 2nd at the Schloss Musikakademie, Alteglofsheim, Regensburg, Bavaria, Germany. 

Italian-born Teodoro Anzellotti studied the accordion in Germany at the Hochschulen, Karlsruhe, and in Trossingen, and became successful in international competitions. Since the 1980s he has often been a guest at festivals and with orchestras. Teodoro Anzellotti has successfully contributed to integrating the accordion into the sphere of classical music. He has a particular interest in what is termed New Music. His discography embraces a spectrum reaching from Bach and Scarlatti to Janácek and Satie to John Cage and Matthias Pintscher.

Stefanie Schumacher studied accordion and piano at the Richard Strauss Conservatory in Munich, and laterthe accordion with Teodoro Anzellotti. She teaches at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Munich, and is also a concert performer, with a special interest in contemporary music. Her CV includes many international festival appearances, and guest performances with the Munich Symphony Orchestra, the Munich Philharmonic, the BR Symphony Orchestra, and the Staatstheater in Gärtnerplatz.

Victor Prieto Master Class, Ourense – Spain

Victor PrietoVictor Prieto holds a master class focusing mainly on the topics of jazz and modern harmony on Saturday July 25th and Sunday July 26th at 5.30pm in Mugares, Ourense, Spain. This class will be for a maximum number of 8 attendees, and taught only in Spanish. The price is 180 Euro (US $250).

Subjects:
- accompanying (comping), chords open and closed position improvisation (scales for faster results), modern harmonies, chord approach on both hands (technique), classical counterpoint improvisation.
- Learn how to comp...(easy way of accompanying)
- how to apply all of these to musical styles.
- Traditional tango and New Tango, patterns, phrasing (imitating a bandoneon), Celtic music, Brazilian and jazz, and much more.

Schedule: 10.30am to 1.30pm, lunch break, 3.30pm to 5.30pm; 10 hours in total.

Spanish-born accordionist Victor Prieto, now based in New York, is well known for his jazz performances. He has been described by the New York Times as “a fiendishly skilled accordionist and composer”.
