Video: Foster & Allen spielen einen ihrer berühmten Hits, Gold & Silver Days. Das beliebte Duo Foster & Allen (Mick Foster und Tony Allen) tourt vom 8. bis 19. Oktober durch Nordirland. Das alljährliche Carrozza Scholarship Fund Dinner Dance der American Accordionists 'Association (AAA) wird am Sonntag, dem 8. September 2019, von 12.00 bis 17.00 Uhr den bekannten Country Artist Joey Miskulin in der Hall of Fame, Famme Furlane des NA Clubs in College Point, NY 11356, ehren. „Joey“, der Akkordeonist in der Gruppe Riders in the Sky, der mit 13 Jahren mit Polka King, Frankie Yankovic, berühmt wurde, wird am 8. September von der American Accordionists 'Association mit dem 2019 Lifetime Achievement Award ausgezeichnet. Joey wird als Dank einige seiner bekannten Lieder spielen. Der Carmen Carrozza-Stipendienfonds wurde 2002 mit einer Spende von 2.000 USD durch den langjährigen AAA-Sponsor Steve Stolaruk gegründet. Der Zweck des Fonds ist die Vergabe eines Musikstipendiums an junge Akkordeonisten, die am Carmen Carrozza Stipendien Solo Wettbewerb des AAA Festivals teilnehmen. Die Gewinner des Carmen Carrozza Memorial-Wettbewerbs 2019 sind Nathan Chapeton (Open Division) und Gia Ciccone (Junior Division) (siehe Abbildung unten). Seine Konzerte werden Stücke aus seinem Projekt „Made in Italy“, Soundtracks italienischer Kinofilme von Marco sowie eigene Kompositionen enthalten. The 22nd International Argentine Tango Festival was held in Tarbes, Occitanie region of southwestern France from August 17th to 25th. Organised by the Town Hall, Tarbes Tourist Office and the Association of Tangueando Ibos, the Tango Festival is one of the largest tango festivals in the world. The event included a variety of concerts. bandoneon workshops, dancing in the street, movies, a Romeo & Juliette Tango, DJ’s and Milonga performances. Beltango Quinteto which includes Aleksandar Nikolic (bandoneon), Ivana Nikolic (piano & vocals), Antonija Barna (violin), Bogdan Pejic (guitar) and Petar Holik (double bass) entertained at the event with a variety of tango pieces (picture below). Other entertainers during the successful festival included Tango Orchestra band “Bandonegro”, Carmela Delgado, Duo Mercadante Pacin (picture above right), Duo Faryna Satorre, Duo Luna Tobaldi, Duo Maguba Trosman, Quinteto Ensuenos, Tango Sonos Quartet, Tango Spleen Orquesta and Taxxi Tango XX1. |

Ibagué Festival Masterclass & Concert - Colombiaby Christine Johnstone |
The Ibagué Festival was held at the Conservatory of Music in Ibagué, Tolima from August 15th to 19th organized by the Salvi Foundation of Colombia. During the festival, a Masterclass was held by Chinese accordionist Hanzhi Wang on August 17th & 18th. Colombian concert accordionist Lácides Romero Meza (picture below left), attended the special masterclass and interpreted three movements of the Suite in D minor (Handel), original for harpsichord and the Sarabanda in G minor by Andre Cardinal Destouches, for organ. During the class they also played Oblivion (Astor Piazzolla), and music themes from the Colombian Atlantic coast. Romero gifted these scores and other works of his own authorship "Colombian Variations to the Carnival of Venice" and “Colombian Music Pieces of the Atlantic Coast arranged for accordion". Following the masterclass, Hanzi Wang (picture below right) gave a well received concert on August 17th to an audience of over 600 people. Her program included works by Scarlatti, Piazzolla, Grieg, Moszokovski, and Wang. |

Video: Honky-Tonk Jump plays the Kangaroo Blues, Dec 2017 at Baby Blue Arts in Minneapolis MN. Dan Newton (accordion/vocals), Tom Schaefer (fiddle), Dan Lowinger (guitar), Vaughn Asselstine (bass), Dehl Gallagher (drums). The Minnesota State Fair, often referred to as the “Great Minnesota Get-Together”, began on August 22nd and will run through to September 2nd, 2019 in St Paul, Minnesota. The fair is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the region and attracts over 2 million guests annually. Entries close on September 5th for the XII International Accordion Composition competition “Francisco Escudero" organised by the Hauspoz Euskal Herriko Akordoei Elkartea. The objective of the contest is to promote the creation of pieces for solo accordion and for accordion in chamber music. A unique category is for works composed for solo accordion or for chamber music with accordion, and their length may not exceed 10 minutes. The works of chamber music must be composed for a maximum of four players in which there is at least one accordion. The competition is open to composers of any age and nationality. Accordionist Iñigo Mikeleiz-Berrade will give a free lunchtime concert at St Martin-in-the-Fields Church, Trafalgar Square, London on September 6th from 1pm to 1.45pm. His program will include Prelude and Fugue in C (Bach), De Profundis (Sofia Gubaidulina), Adagio in B minor (Mozart), Shades VII (Naresh Sohal), Jeux d’anches (Magnus Lindberg) and Ave Maria (Piazzolla). Iñigo is also a member of the Diphonon Duo, along with violist Michael Iskas and the Duo Giuliano-Mikeleiz with cellist Daryl Giuliano. In addition, he performs with “Unicorn Frequency”, a six piece band led by Romanian violinist Bogdan Vacarescu that plays Eastern-European music mixed with classical and jazz styles. An accordion concert entitled “Accordions by the Beach” will be held at the Ted Blackwood Community Centre Hall in Warriewood, Sydney, Australia on September 8th hosted by the Accordion Society of Australia. Sacred Earth Tour 2019 – UKby Christine Johnstone |
Irish accordionist Sharon Shannon and band will tour the UK during September with special guest Seckou Keita. Band members Jim Murray (guitar), Jack Maher (guitar & vocals) and Sean Regan (fiddle, percussion & beatbox) will perform music from Sharon’s many albums throughout the years, including 2017’s “Sacred Earth”. The album features many tracks with African influences and African musicians as collaborators and guests. Seckou Keita (from Senegal) plays Kora and percussion and was one of the key collaborators. Folk Trio Entertain at Mushroom Festival - Lithuaniaby Christine Johnstone |
Video: Liepa - Folk Trio (Ineta Meduneckyte Tamošiuniene, Nerijus Bakula, Jan Maksimovich) Lithuanian National TV 2019. Folk Trio will entertain at the Varena Mushroom Festival held in the town of Varena, Lithuania on September 28th. This popular festival is held at the end of September each year and includes a mushroom picking championship, mushroom sales, crafts and an extensive concert program. Attendees arrive from all over the world to participate in the mushroom hunt, explore Lithuanian cuisine dishes and listen to local folk music. During the day Trio members, accordionist Nerijus Bakula (picture left) and Ineta Meduneckyte (vocals) will present shows with their students from the Varena Art school. The Folk Trio will entertain in the evening with a mix of ancient Lithuanian folk songs which, along with the sounds and rhythms of accordion and saxophone create deep and sincere feelings about the past. Royal Academy of Music graduate Ben de Souza (accordion) will take part in a chamber music concert with Chloë Meade (violin) at the Salisbury Chamber Music Club, United Reformed Church, Fisherton Street in Salisbury on September 28th at 7.30pm. The Salisbury Chamber Music Club organises low-cost, high-quality live chamber music concerts on a monthly basis from September through to April, giving local amateur musicians, young professionals and A-level students an opportunity to play for a live audience. Mihoko Goto (Japan) Presents Concert for AWAM - USAby Rob Howard |
A World of Accordions Museum (AWAM) are excited to welcome Mihoko Goto as the first Japanese accordionist to present a concert at Harrington Arts Center, part of AWAM in Superior, Wisconsin on October 12th at 4pm. Mihoko is one of Japan’s well known accordionists, whose unique sound and performance style is highly praised at home. She has a large repertoire that incorporates characteristics of many musicological styles-- traditional Japanese, Russian, classical, flamenco, rock, and other world music. Her musical experiences are impressively diverse as she has studied in Japan, Hong Kong and England, as well as with Nick Ariondo in Los Angeles and with Viatcheslav Semionov in Moscow. She has appeared on television and radio while also releasing three albums through Victor Entertainment and performed in NYC, Germany, Russia, Finland and in her homeland Japan. No admission fee.
