Joseph Petric’s Schubert Recital, Jerusalem - Israel‏

Joseph Petric’s Schubert Recital, Jerusalem - Israel‏
Yehuda Oppenheimer & Joseph PetricOn March 21st a special concert was held in the concert hall of the Y.M.C.A. in Jerusalem. The famous baritone singer Christoher Prégardien was not accompanied on the piano as usual, but by a wind quintet (flute, clarinet, oboe and bassoon), but what was really special was the use of the accordion as accompaniment - the accordionist being Joseph Petric from Canada.

This was marked by unusual delicacy and musicality with the audience both astonished and impressed. It took a while until the ears got accustomed to the sound between the wind instruments and the wonderful baritone, but the audience quickly appreciated this non-traditional accompaniment of Schubert's ‘Lieder’.

The program lasted one and a half hours (without a break) and the audience was carried away...... The special arrangement of ‘Normand Forget’ was excellent and not only a success for the singer and Schubert, but for our beloved instrument the accordion.

‘14 Years Ago’ – Going back home…

Tania Lukic-MarxOn March 21st Tania Lukic-Marx was reported as having visiting her home town in Yugoslavia in that week’s news on Accordions Worldwide. Tania, who had emigrated to Australia, is now a leading figure in the accordion movement ‘Down Under’, and well known to regular readers of the AWW news.

YUGOSLAVIA TRIP
Contributed by Tania Lukic-Marx

After two and a half years I was glad to be back in my home town, Kragujevac and to see my family and friends. Many things have changed there since my last visit in 1994. One of the things that has changed for the better is the accordion in Kragujevac.

While I was there, I visited the Music School (that I had attended from age 9 to 18), and had an opportunity to hear accordion students performing. I was very impressed with the playing standard.

Radomir Tomic (my teacher from 1981) and other teachers have worked hard to create some very good Yugoslav accordion students that have competed successfully in competitions at Klingenthal and Castelfidardo, and the Coupe Mondiale.

My very close friend Milan Tomic (Radomir's brother), is organising an annual event each July called Summer School for the Accordion. This event runs for 10 days, and is attended by 30 to 40 accordion students. This year Professor Semionov and Professor Hugo Noth have been invited to tutor.
