CIA Ambassador Kevin Friedrich is making the most of his lengthy stay in New Zealand while away from his home in New York, this time returning to the school where he attended and first began accordion lessons, the Dargaville Primary School. With the students having recently studied Italy, it was a perfect opportunity to present an educational program about the accordion and its strong Italian connection.

Combining music, movement and song, the program showcased the accordion history, construction and music while allowing the enthusiastic young students aged 9-10 years old to participate.

During the five concerts, approximately 150 young students were treated to music from Disney, Star Wars and The Muppet Movies, Folk music, novelty pieces and traditional New Zealand Maori music.

Assisting Kevin were accordionist Christine Johnstone, AWW News Editor and Director of the North Shore Music Makers Accordion Orchestra (Auckland, New Zealand) and Linda Emmett Litt, (percussion and timpani) the daughter of Doreen Emmett who first taught Kevin the accordion at the Dargaville Primary School in the 1970s.

The concerts will resume in October when the new School term begins with the upcoming concerts being presented to the middle and junior syndicates at the Dargaville Primary School.
