CNIMA Pays Homage to Louis Corchia - Franceby Nathalie Boucheix, Director CNIMA J.Mornet |
Video: Menzo Gatte, 14 year old, plays "Roulotte" by Louis Corchia, at Castelfidardo in 2019 Last week, we reported the sad death of Louis Corchia from Covid-19 and showed two videos. The CNIMA international accordion school based in the heart of France, pays homage to Louis Corchia. Nathalie Boucheix, co-founder and school manager, fondly remembers all the concerts she played with her friend Louis Corchia. "I am deeply saddened by the loss of Loulou. He was an extraordinary musician, respected and appreciated by all. Loyal, humble, easy-going. He was truly an exceptional man! A role model for all. I am truly moved by his death due to the Covid-19 pandemic. He trusted me for so many years inviting me regularly to play at his many galas and concerts among the best. I owe him a lot and will remember him forever, deep in my heart. He will be greatly missed. The accordion world is mourning as they lost a 'grand monsieur"! Farewell Loulou and THANK YOU. You will always be at our side." Jacques Mornet, founder of the CNIMA school adds: "A great man just left us. He was an all round artist, a great musician (2nd in the Coupe Mondiale 1951 and winner of the first Trophée Mondial in 1951 in London) who won the pride of his father Primo, also an accordion talent which was almost transmitted genetically to his son. His kindness and his musical honesty were famous. He loved life and knew how to share his joy and good mood. All the students at the CNIMA and the school manager Nathalie Boucheix, join me to give our most sincere condolences to his wife Jeanine and all the members of his family. We have chosen Menzo Gatte, one of our youngest students to pay a well deserved homage through the playing of his "hit" (as he would say) "la Roulotte". Farewell our friend. In the angels paradise, up there.... be happy to have inspired this young generation that made you so proud." |

A Touch of Italy in Dargaville - New Zealandby Harley Jones |
Picture above: Christine Johnstone (left), Kevin Friedrich (centre) and Linda Litt (right). CIA Ambassador Kevin Friedrich is making the most of his lengthy stay in New Zealand while away from his home in New York, this time returning to the school where he attended and first began accordion lessons, the Dargaville Primary School. With the students having recently studied Italy, it was a perfect opportunity to present an educational program about the accordion and its strong Italian connection. Combining music, movement and song, the program showcased the accordion history, construction and music while allowing the enthusiastic young students aged 9-10 years old to participate. During the five concerts, approximately 150 young students were treated to music from Disney, Star Wars and The Muppet Movies, Folk music, novelty pieces and traditional New Zealand Maori music. Assisting Kevin were accordionist Christine Johnstone, AWW News Editor and Director of the North Shore Music Makers Accordion Orchestra (Auckland, New Zealand) and Linda Emmett Litt, (percussion and timpani) the daughter of Doreen Emmett who first taught Kevin the accordion at the Dargaville Primary School in the 1970s. The concerts will resume in October when the new School term begins with the upcoming concerts being presented to the middle and junior syndicates at the Dargaville Primary School. Video: Alessandro Mugnoz Quintet Recording of Felice Fugazza's "Scherzo" - Italyby Harley Jones |
Alessandro Mugnoz now has a youtube channel. The idea is to tell musical "stories", through various experiences of about forty years. Enjoy this historical recording/video. Felice Fugazza's "Scherzo" (1922-2007), published in 1953 by Farfisa (later Bérben) editions, is one of the first significant Italian compositions dedicated to an accordion ensemble. The author, a truly multifaceted musician (multi-instrumentalist, teacher, composer, arranger, publicist, designer), was one of the fundamental figures for the affirmation and enhancement of the accordion instrument. The present was most likely not our best interpretation, but it is certainly the only one left to testify the ensemble's activity in the early 1980s. The recording, now historical, was made in Potenza Picena (MC) in the summer of 1983; when the group recorded an entire concert / record program in a single session, practically live. Later it was included in the CD "Accordiones in concert", distributed by Prendinota editions. Performers: Alessandro Mugnoz, 1st accordion Miriam Mugnoz, 2nd accordion Andrea Carnevalini, 3rd accordion Fabrizio Sbacco, 4th accordion Edgardo Mugnoz, bass accordion |
